Some ~personal news:~

My first chapbook with Pastitch Press is coming in November! “Coal of Fire” includes translations from the Hebrew Bible, as well as poems and two essays exploring translation, identity, and the sacred.

I’m so excited and proud of this little book.

Chicago priest Fr. Larry Dowling describes procession to ICE facility: “No one had the courage to speak directly to us. No one from Homeland Security could stand in the presence of the Monstrance holding the Blessed Sacrament. No wonder. Evil is repelled, recoils in the presence of Christ.”

im addicted to this catholicism game. ive acquired a bunch of loot (medals and icons are my favorite, but low-level bosses mostly just drop prayer cards) & the levels are pretty repetitive, but at least there’s wine.

some people arent into the new leo dlc but theyve been unhappy for like 10 years.

if they admit to the fact that there is a fascist takeover of the united states government taking place right now, somebody might expect them to do something about it

Historically, it tends to come down to questions of how god acts in the world and how human authority should be structured. In other words: is the Mass magic, and do we fuck around with bishops

Clergy titles are a lot! Anglicans, like Catholics, use “priest” to denote a leadership role in liturgical life. “Pastor,” meaning “shepherd,” denotes a leadership role in community care. Presbyterian clergy are often called “Elder” (which is what “Presbyter” means).

Doug Wilson co-authored a (plagiarized) book that defended the institution of slavery *as it was practiced in the antebellum South*. This is how Douthat introduced the subject while providing him with the NYT's platform:
Douthat: So, just to take a related example, one of the controversies of many that you’ve been mixed up in has to do with slavery, and whether slavery is absolutely forbidden by the Bible, absolutely forbidden to Christians, or whether it is critiqued, but allowed for.

Wilson: Right.

Douthat: And you think it is critiqued, but allowed for.

Wilson: Right.

Douthat: On this, on a straightforward reading of the New Testament, I would agree with you. I would say, pretty clearly, there is a pretty clear path from the message of the Bible to the abolition of slavery. But there is no moment in the New Testament when Jesus insists on the manumission of slaves.

Wilson: Right.
