Yes! Then if you do miscarry they will tell you that has nothing to do with anything you did. Which I’m sure is true, yet it’s v. hard to think that way when you’re constantly told you shouldn’t eat this, take those drugs or use that face cream because we don’t know their effects on pregnancy…

A common response to pregnancy (i.e. pushing through) is not necessarily a good one. And certainly not a necessary one.

As if something that happens to many people can’t be that hard or deserving of special circumstances.
Actually, you should not only push through, but keep it to yourself. Because what if you miscarry and you told all those people? Then they would have to know about your miscarriage too...

First trimester of pregnancy is extremely hard because: you may feel physically terrible every day for weeks; the anxiety of miscarrying is all-consuming; and you feel alone, even when you’re not.
Time has never gone so slow.
Yet, because it’s so common, you’re expected to just push through.

Case in point: my 4 yo is excited to have my mum visit because he thinks she can make any dish that has butter in it and apparently I’m “still learning”.
I won’t tell him that my grandma used a lot more butter than does my mum.

I’ve been cooking like a grandma, adding more butter, cream and/or salt to everything and I must say, there’s a reason why grandmas’ cooking is so popular.

Although I would argue in that example we really faced a bipolar system that came under attack which led to a period of instability with different middle powers trying to take over and become the hegemon.

In Edmonton, the IKEA cafeteria has switched from reusable dinnerware to compostable ones and Starbucks no longer accepts my reusable mug for health safety reasons. Are businesses regressing on sustainability because there’s not enough pressure?
