During my #MattersMicrobial podcast, I chatted with Dr. Petra Levin: an advocate of microbiologists doing microscopy! But my eyes are horrible. Petra described a self focusing microscope that puts the images on a screen. THAT is the kind of thing I need, but I am pretty sure I could never afford.

My late father did his best to teach me what deep philosophical rules beyond partisan politics. He was so very wise, and I didn't see that when I was young. I miss chatting with him. It's been almost ten years, yet his many lessons are still fresh. "Fortitudini et honori," Dad. Rest easy.

When I was a kiddo, I was delighted and frightened by scary movies. Humor helped. When I was in middle school, three of my friend and I would meet to watch horror movies on television hosted by "Sinister Seymour," who made hilarious fun of them.

I have been quite sad at looming retirement, & I wanted to show you why. I made a joke the other day in microbiology lecture, telling #Bio350 #Micronauts at the University of Puget Sound to “keep me in the loop” as they studied. The inoculating loop! A #Micronaut just sent this to me! @microbe.tv

This study provides evidence on how carbon metabolism regulates cell division among cyanobacteria. Manipulation of the TCA pathway directly impacts the FtsZ-dependent cell division by regulating its expression via the transcriptional factor NtcA.
