Marbles and Pam's and Rings are all in VCVRack! You could get close to this patch for free?
mattcolville.bsky.social
It's a modular synth! The most expensive way to make unlistenable nonsense ever! :D

You could start with Pam's, the Surface, and some end-of-chain effect module or pedal.

A lot of this is possible in VCVRack which is free software.

I think there's a lot I could do with a patch like this. I want to try locking the sequence from Marbles, and then using an EG to slew the notes around, but in time with Marbles' internal clock. So the same six notes play every "measure" just in different rhythms.

I feel the same way! :D Thanks for the kind words!

Boom. No idea what I did differently this time.

I think this is it. Gonna take this on the road, find a visually suitable locale to shoot a video for this.

It's functionally identical to a thousand similar videos online but I don't care. This one is mine.

Nautilus could use more modulation. Doing nothing with the reverse knob seems like a missed opportunity, but the patch is already pretty dense harmonically. I'm not sure the reversed delays would be heard.

Worth a try though!

I honestly, genuinely think the issue is; the 12 year olds who saw that movie and grew up to be movie producers didn't understand what Ram was talking about in that scene, because they were 12.

Why they STILL don't understand it as adults is a different issue.

Anyway, the original is a brilliant mess. An unwritten film that used a technique never used before, never used again.

I would just remake that original film, with a writer, and actually use the hi-con b/w technique again. I'd shoot it the way they did. It would be insane. It would be amazing.

They talked, in interviews, about how ridiculous the idea of these programs having lives was. "What, are we going to license AOL Instant Messenger??"

Good question! But if you hate that idea so much...why are you making a Tron movie?
mattcolville.bsky.social
I don't get the impression the sequel producers throw this idea out, I get the sense they don't even know it's true.

I remember in the 90s the problem was, suddenly the producers HAD computers. In 1982 computers were still a legitimate subject of SF. But by 1996 the producers had email.

Tron's vision of cyberspace is wholly unique. It's not *just* a visual language, it's a collection of ideas.

The idea that the programs we use live their own little lives as people in The Machine is Tron's only original idea.

The Tron franchise is very weird to me because no one who's owned it since 1982 even seems to be aware of what that movie was about.

Tron is a genuine Cyberpunk film. Flynn is a cyberpunk! He's going to hack into a gigacorp and bring it down from, literally, the inside. The inside of the computer!

I mean, I've got lots against it! If you need anything lemme know! :D

Actually I know exactly why I'm rooting for Reece, it's the Withnail coat.
mattcolville.bsky.social
The only contestant I had any awareness of was Maisie from her panel show appearances.

I find myself rooting for Reece and I'm not sure why. And I really hope Maisie loses by like 1 point because I think that would be the funniest possible result.

Halfway through this taskmaster series, and the top four contestants are all within five points of each other. That's crazy. 78, 73, 73, 77.

I have this feeling the next five episodes are going to be really pyrotechnic. Things almost came to blows this episode!

Vector recreation of the iconic Psygnosis logo.

Psygnosis were a video game developer and publisher from '84 to '99, perhaps most famous for Lemmings and WipeOut. At least to me. I was also fond of a mech shooter called Walker. [🧵]
