You know what will definitely fix this? Some kind of idiotic stitch up to put Wes Streeting into Number 10

The solution to your problems is not to do the thing that will stop the Daily Mail shouting at you, because that thing doesn't exist. It's to do the thing that works.

Hey, Kier. Top tip. The Daily Mail might shout at you ideologically, but they'll look like absolute chumps if you just do something that actually works, mate.

People would shout at MPs less if they stopped being dipshits, is what I'm saying.

Part of me still thinks it would just be easier for everyone if politicians just pursued policies that worked, y'know?

What Thiel is saying about tax havens = what Altman is saying about copyright:

"I can't be rich unless you let me steal from you."

This is how Broligarchs differ from oligarchs of yore: the latter tried to hide their thievery; the Broligarchs trumpet their entitlement to steal as a natural right.

something quite brain-melting about the hard right's position apparently now being "we hate all Muslims and distrust Muslim states, aside from that one Muslim place that still has slavery because that sounds fun"

I think Zohran is great and inspiring and much needed right now, but all he's doing is like the job as it's supposed to be. Starts with a set of principles and advocates for them. It's like how everyone goes crazy for Chotiner for just doing the job. Not an indictment on either of them but the rest.

If this was happening in any other country you'd have journalists and analysts discussing risks of state failure

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

We talk a lot about smartphones making people reclusive and unable to meet irl, but really what needs more paying attention to is how many new forms of smartphone mediated anti social behaviour nobody knows how to deal with

There was someone in double Burberry at the hotel protest in Exeter who was apparently doing "audits" for a YouTube channel, filming people in an annoyingly aggro way. Apparently crowdfunding for afaict unrelated police troubles.

I had a conversation this month with someone whose criminal car became an era defining precedent. He, too, had shitty lawyers. It's really quite amazing how much absolutely consequential precedent in common law systems results from defendants having stupid lawyers.

Like what the fuck was her defense attorney doing, b/c twice here it says she discussed being trans with the guy. It’s not shocking she’s not had much gender affirming care with NHS’s notorious wait lists. And where was her defense, who says partners need to disclose this? Being trans isn’t an STI.
From the mirror:

Victoria Lamballe, defending Watkin, said the 21-year-old has had no gender reassignment surgery and had stuffed clothing inside of her bra. Watkin told the man over the phone about being transgender some time after the pair had met, the court heard. They met again for a second time at his home and the victim's mother suspected Watkin was trans, but did not say anything to her son, the court heard. His friends came to his house and also suspected Watkin trans, jurors were told.
Watkin told the man over the phone about being transgender some time after the pair had met and she told police she realised if the man believed she was trans, the relationship would have ended.

The other thing that is notable about this is that the moment he received pushback, Piers just collapses into a sputtering mess.

This class of 'pundit' has become so used to going unchallenged that they literally don't know how to deal with it. Embarrassing it took so long for this to be exposed.

Apparently Joanne missed the "Data of Biology" chapter from the Second Sex that explicitly argues against this stupid argument of hers.

www.reddit.com/r/GenderCyni...
THE DATA OF BIOLOGY TOMAN? Very simple, say the fanciers of simple formułas: she /is a womb, an ovary; she is a female- his word is sufficient to sound of an insult, yet he is not ashamed of his animal nature; on the contrary, he is proud if someone says of hin: He is a male! The term 'female' is derogatory not because it emphasizes women's animality, but because it imprisons her in her sex; and if this sex seems to man to be contemptible and inimical even in harmless dumb animals, it is evidently because of the uneasy hostility stirred up in bim by woman. Nevertheless he wishes to find in biology a justification for this sentiment. The word female brings up in his mind a saraband of imagery- a vast, round ovum engulfs and castrates the agile spermatozoon; the monstrous and swollen termite queen rules over the enslaved males; the female praying mantis and the spider, satiated with love, crush and devour their partners; the bich in heat runs through the alleys, trailing behind her a wake of depraved odours; the she-monkey presents her posterior immodestly and then steals away with hypocritical coyuetry; and the most superb wild the imperial embrace of the male. Females sluggish, eager, artful, stupid, callous, lustful, ferocious, abased- man projects them all at once upon woman. And the fact is that she is a female. But if we are willing to stop thinking in platitudes, two questions are immediately posed: what does the female denote in the animal kingdom? And hat particular kind
