I'm gonna try to articulate something I've been thinking about for a while, regarding *why* disillusionment, distrust, & dissatisfaction with democracy are rising.

Almost everything I read takes this phenomenon as an exogenous shock, assuming no one chose to make it so. I suspect that's incomplete.

I had this! I never actually got tested bc i thought the first round was a normal cold. But like 5-7 days later the head cold returned in full force and i realized it was definitely covid. It’s hard to know without testing these days, bc covid doesnt mute smell/taste anymore

It’s clear to everyone what is likely coming. Mayor-to-be Zohran Mamdani told me weeks ago that he considers the National Guard being deployed to NYC to be an inevitability. For Mamdani and his allies, the question is: What meaningful forms of bureaucratic warfare can be waged against the feds? When I interviewed Lander earlier this month, he mentioned the possibility of things like sending in city building inspector’s to ICE’s headquarters at 26 Federal Plaza, where they are holding detainees in what is almost certainly a violation of their building permit. Stuff like that should begin the day that Mamdani is sworn in. In the same way that the federal government has been weaponized against immigrants, the New York City government should be weaponized against the federal government’s presence in the city.

Building inspectors, yes. And safety inspectors. Is the water in the ICE office clean? Cut it off, to test it. Fire drills. Tickets on their parked cars. Brake light violations. Health inspections. Sidewalk construction. Street closures. More fire drills. More fire drills! You can never have too much fire safety.

Ahhh it’s the tub overflow drain. Had it happen to me in a short term rental once, that drain is either improperly installed or disconnected entirely. So if water rises enough to go through that metal circle, it literally drips directly into your floor then into that ceiling fan+ceiling+walls

I appreciate your commitment to academic objectivity here, but historical symbols are given new meaning by their contemporary users all the time. So yeah norse mythology was obviously its own thing, but so were Asian/Indian harmony symbols before the Nazis perverted and popularized them among Nazis
