The Young Republican chat leak isn’t about “kids telling jokes.” It’s about a culture that’s been decades in the making—from the Southern Strategy to Trump’s open embrace of white nationalism. J.D. Vance’s defense of it shows how far the party has fallen.

Things are happening at Portland's ICE facility tonight.

Maybe that was the source of the claim? Again bad memory but as I recall that was around in the 50s I think? If so dropping it in the mid 80s is maybe less controversial
As a side note… that point at the end there about remotely identifying the receiving frequency of a radio without requiring a visual is a cool capability. Trying to remember where I read it but I was shocked when I learned how early the Brit’s were onto that sniffing out numbers station recipients.
I‘m well out of my depth here but.. that they tried to prosecute him for this feels entirely legitimate no?
I haven’t actually read spycatcher.. but the impression I had of the books contents was actually very problematic. Not putting my hands in the fire on that one, I’m going with minimal context and a bad memory.
As I recall Peter Wright even made that threat explicitly that they either back off right now or he would go nuclear from the relative safety of Australia.
I don’t mean to oversimplify it but there’s a very obvious answer right there I think too. I just generally wouldn’t recommend trying to blackmail an intelligence agency but as far as I can tell both him and Peter wright did exactly that and walked. Just a random guys impression nothing more.
World’s most predictable outcome. Also if you ever encounter someone pulling this in real life please don't hesitate to break their shit on the spot.
People are opening up Meta AI Ray Ban glasses and modding out the LED recording light, then selling them on eBay. There is huge interest in disabling this functionality, which means basically you cannot trust anyone wearing these (i'm sure you already weren't)

A $60 Mod to Meta’s Ray-Bans Disables Its Privacy-Protecting Recording Light
Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses usually include an LED that lights up when the user is recording other people. One hobbyist is charging a small fee to disable that light, and has a growing list of customers ar...

Maybe blackmail is a bit dramatic of a term but most people don’t tend to talk their way out of situations like that. I know even less about the spycatcher affair but that also gave me that impression in a bunch of ways. Let’s call it a mutual understanding I guess 🤷‍♂️
Appreciate the insight. On one hand it looks somewhat like he blackmailed them as an outsider but in a more practical sense, I never heard him say another thing in public after that point which was probably a good outcome to be honest and has some parallels I think here that feel relevant.
the way you lot are just lighting your reputations of fire with this drivel is mind blowing.

Since the “ceasefire,” Netanyahu has killed 100+ Palestinians, has continued to restrict aid into Gaza, banned all UN investigators, & still enforces an international media blackout.

And billionaire owned Washington Post runs this pro genocide editorial. Why do you still have a Wash Post sub?

I just need to remind everyone that Donald Trump is NOT leaving office in 2028. In 10 months he has:

- disbanded the Federal Election Commission, who oversees elections
- has the Supreme Court overturning the Voting Rights Act to give him ~20 more seats in Congress
Makes sense in that its absolutely the party of choice for people who have fucked up their own lives and their kids won’t talk to them anymore etc… the level of self loathing is actually incredibly high among them.

You never met a bigger critic than Bret Stephens of “safe spaces” and “trigger warnings” nor a bigger proponent of courageously engaging in argumentation and embracing discomfort.

Until someone advocates for Palestinian human rights. Then he shrivels up into a whimpering, tearful, quaking mess.

Gray-haired man in civilian coat runs into flames at Kharkiv kindergarten hit by Russian drones y'day. Emerges with child—pink pants and slippers visible under his jacket. Goes back in.

2 journalists recognized him 👇
why are they always hyper fucking focused on age of consent laws…?
Not yet willing to make claims about exactly *how* they go about this but my main takeaway is that they are just not going to put themselves in a position where a loss is possible.
