This arrived! Proof copy came this afternoon to sign and return. I'm almost an author!
It contains all the work done for the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Keighley Town Council's grant to add 103 names to the roll of honour this year.

Another brief visit to Fawsley, my local #OnePlaceStudy parish, this afternoon. Got chatting to a chap out walking who was interested in wildlife, family history and local history; he has Long Buckby Wharf connections so I recommended that he seeks out your OPS websites @juliegfamily.bsky.social!

#31DaysOfGraves. Day 19 catch-up: Social Group. My Waters Upton #OnePlaceStudy began with the churchyard then grew to take in the parish, including its cemetery, & revealed social groups—people who worked / socialised / played / prayed together, communities within a community—in both burial grounds.

Dockroyd Graveyard in #Oakworth is just along the road from me and the Trust members have done some amazing work both restoring the graveyards itself (with a huge amount of local support) and publishing their research on the people who are buried there:

I wonder if the availability of fireworks all year round has taken away some of the excitement of bonfire night?
It's similar to people putting Christmas decorations up in November ...or earlier. The magic of seasonal celebrations is diluted by extending them too far and some people don't realise.

Yes, it's also a good way to add lots of extra text to a restricted post-size medium like Bluesky, but the best thing about it is that it means so many more people can understand your message. I really don't know why more people don't do it.

Yesterday we launched our #Oakworth #Remembrance #Trail. We installed 96 boards on lamp-posts around our village, next to, or close to the homes of the Oakworth men who died in the first and second world wars. A QR Code guides visitors to their biographies on our website:

Seven out of the eight adult volunteers who came out to install the 96 Oakworth Remembrance Trail Boards on Thursday 30th October 2025. Each volunteer is holding a white A3 sized correx board printed with details of a serviceman who died in either the First or the Second World Wars, which will go on to lamp-posts near their homes from before they enlisted. Behind this group is a large laurel hedge and a drystone wall.

Managed another short visit to Fawsley, my local #OnePlaceStudy parish, yesterday. As the sun/cloud ratio didn't favour landscape photography I spent more time in the church. The run-up to Halloween seems a great time to share some of its bonkers-but-brilliant box pew carvings. 🧵 #OnePlaceWednesday

On the left, there is what appears to be a dog; the leaf-like shapes above it may represent the dog's barking calls, in effect medieval 'speech bubbles'. The central panel features a trio of upright creatures with pointed ears and long, slim tails; the smallest is on the left, the largest - playing a fiddle-like instrument with a bow, is on the right. Beneath those creatures are several circular shapes, each with two projections on either side, possibly representing bowls. At the bottom a peculiar quadruped with a ridged back and a short, thick tail raised like an elephant's trunk stands with its head buried in a large cooking pot which has three feet. Finally, the panel on the right has the head and shoulders of a man wearing a hat, below which there is a bear-like creature with its feet on the left side of the panel; it has a collar around its neck from which a chain descends to a fixing point on the left side of the panel. At the bottom, rotated sideways and facing upwards, is the head and shoulders of a man holding a horn to his mouth with his left hand.

It's a terrific exhibit! Loads of interpretation boards and a video on loop inside. It's well worth a visit!
