Machine intelligences that mimic sapiency don't need Laws because their personality is based off of data downloaded from organic people into very high technology 'black boxes' -- and they grow from there.
AIs don't need Laws because they are people.

In Metacosm most complex mechanical beings use' energy cells'; a compression battery of sorts containing the processed output from a naturally-occurring mineral simply called 'energy crystals.' 'Energy' itself is a specific thing, not a generic term, but no more space to explain lol

Well Pheonix of The Fractured Balance already considers himself an organic machine. Combat and archive-focused though, for sure.

Yes! Metacosm has a *ton* of different style of nonorganic beings ranging from massive demigod AIs at the centers of spaceships and planets, to consensus nanobots encased in mimetic mesh, to bots of all flavors. We look at it that Mass Effect got one thing right: synthesis is the future.

So, #TBBChat, this is such an issue in the books because there are rare form bots and virtual intelligences that don't have Laws of some sort. The rest of the bots have to figure out how to live a life of freedom within those constraints (of laws) or figure out how to shed them

#TBBChat bots can actually be powered by a lot of different things! Zev, for example, has the coveted nuclear powered core, which makes him very independent.

Less independent bots are often saddled with batteries, and on occasion they'll get solar panels if they're specialty/outside bots

#TBBChat, basically the odd person out is the one who is NOT a robot. In The Warm Machine we don't see any full humans, & the only human-like people are cyber gangs in the lowest levels.

In The Lucky Machine, Inix befriends a cyborg named Sylvan, who plays a major role in the story!
