The PM should invite Mark Carney for an official visit and address to Parliament before Trump’s visit.

It would show Britain backs Canada against Trump’s damaging trade war. Now is the time to stand with the Commonwealth, not stand in Trump’s shadow like Nigel Farage.

Trump may well achieve his goal of reducing the US trade deficit, but via the worst possible way: engineering recession at home and removing America’s and USD’s status as trusted safe haven. It would be a poorer, hostile nation but with trade surplus. Sort of like Russia. Some win.

"[Trump] is so obsessed with the problem of free riders that he forgets that it has been in America’s interest to drive the bus."

Trump also doesn't consider that riders may take another bus, car share, or bike. The world is not static.
