In the Baltimore Sun today we ask Governor Wes Moore to cancel Avelo Airlines' contract with BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport. He can do it today. It doesn't require the assembly. It will help stop ICE & help our patients and neighbors.

Please share widely.

How Wes Moore can deal a blow to Trump’s immigration agenda | GUEST COMMENTARY
Guest commentary: Gov. Wes Moore has a novel opportunity to undermine Trump’s immigration agenda by targeting an airline participating in ICE’s deportations.

I was immediately up front for both of these Pickathon shows. I recall photographing (and thus pointing out) a huge slug on the beer holder stump that Joe was using for his beer during the second (Woods Stage) show. My photos:
Up close photo of three members of Protomartyr (left to right, Alex Leonard on drums, Joe Casey singing, and Scott Davidson on bass). THey are playing on a stage with a wooden thicket in back of them and the whole stage is in the woods (called the Woods Stage). Guitarist Grey Ahee doing his job, large slug and metal beer container (Pickathon is all recycled dishware).

Unconstitutionally taking money that the law says must be spent on one purpose & using it for something else—when it's to establish personalist control over the FUCKING MILITARY—is about as dangerous a constitutional crisis/failure as you can imagine

The Office of Management and Budget sent a notification to Congress about their intent to use research and development funds to pay members of the military, two sources with direct knowledge tell NBC News.

A spokesperson for the OMB confirmed to NBC News that it plans to use the research and development funds and that there are two years' worth of funds available within the Department of Defense.

They have fired the staff of the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report and 70 Epidemic Intelligence Service officers, who are disease detectives that respond to outbreaks around the world.

I cannot emphasize enough how dangerous it is to dismantle our disease surveillance infrastructure.

It really can't be said enough: the goal of the "anti-woke" movement was always to destroy social norms against bigotry. And it worked. And there's a whole lot of purportedly "left" thinkers & commentators who helped it -- indeed, it couldn't have been done without them.

They should feel bad.

Kidnapped in international waters, extraordinary rendition to a genocidal state, and then imprisoned indefinitely.

You'd think this would trigger the immediate expulsion of the Israeli Ambassador for these inexcusable actions against an Australian citizen.

My sister's surgery yesterday was well over 7 hours (planned for 5+). She is "optimally debulked." Now a month of recovery before 4 months of chemo.

"We document the participation of women in European academia [from the year 1000 to 1800]. A total of 108 women taught at universities or were members of academies of arts and sciences. Comparing them with 58,995 male scholars, we find that they were on average better."

A repetitive thing we hear a lot as women in cognitive sciences — which comes up especially when we talk to each other about our reviews, how peers talk to us, etc. — is our writing is not accessible, does this generalise to other fields? Weaponised "you're unclear" is so pathetic IMHO of course

I do want to take a minute to share the backstory of our paper on the total solar eclipse that triggered dawn behavior in birds. This was SUCH a fun paper to work on, a major light in a lot of different tunnels over the past 18 months. doi.org/10.1126/scie... < ☀️ Let the light puns begin ☀️ > (1/x)

She's at University of Chicago hospitals. I worked there in 1987, in hematology/oncology, developing a protocol tracking system.
The same stereotypes apply then as now in the heads of departments, surgery chiefs; impersonal - this is reported to me. I'll go to Chicago tomorrow or Sat

Some not great stuff going on this term, from day 1. And today, in developments just over the last two weeks, my very private and very not-make-a-fuss oldest sister is in a 5+ hour cancer operation right now, all day. For two weeks I have not been able to concentrate. We will know so much more soon.

But let's be real: The reason they've been guarding this guy is, in significant part, an attempt to prevent the press from covering what they did at one of their unwarranted car wash raids.

I'm sure Brett Kavanaugh is all good with it.

He uses this framing a lot. His boss clearly loves it. It also works for him because, in his own way, he is the minoritized Other in that little power cabal — he isn’t really one of them. He does this to show *his* gratitude which I suspect they demand frequently.

But also such a smarmy so and so.

Weaponized gratitude is a key tool in the abuser's toolkit. The goal is to convince the victim that they owe the abuser so much, they should feel guilty for wanting to complain.
Tweet from the VP:
Joy Reid has had such a good life in this country. It's been
overwhelmingly kind and gracious to her. She is far wealthier than most.
Yet she oozes with contempt.
My honest, non-trolling advice to Joy Reid is that you'd be a much
happier person if you showed a little gratitude
