I posted tube-loading maps from the R script from @derekseveri.bsky.social by our centrifuges. My undergrad of >1 year recently had to use a balance tube for the first time ever. github.com/derekLS1/Bal...

Showed my students the perfectly balanced chaos I had before and I think they are both inspired and scared lol. #newpi 🧪
a pic of tube arrangement of 11 tubes in the centrifuge but it did not look balanced at all (although it is). the 11 tubes were broken down into 3+2+6 groups and within each group it's perfectly balanced on its own.

What a beautiful story - thank you for sharing!

They do look fake!! But the fact that they are not just made them extra special 😁

I started to work on MscS-Like proteins 20 years ago, dreaming that they were involved in plant mechanotransduction. And it is becoming more & more clear that they are!

Friday Flower 006: Aquilegia 🌸🦋

Columbines vary in stamen number, making them a powerful model for how floral whorls expand.

Darwin marveled at their long nectar spurs, which co-evolve with hawkmoth tongues to reward pollinators that brush the stamens ✨

Very excited to see our @nikogeldner.bsky.social lab x Feng Zhou lab work featured on the cover of Science!
(1/5) We reveal how root architecture and nutrient leakage shape spatial patterns of microbial colonization, moving beyond traditional models of uniform exudation.

Using precise spatial and temporal analysis, researchers in Science provide insight into how bacteria around the root interact both with the plant and with each other.

Learn more in this week's issue: https://scim.ag/3WgNajk
A confocal microscopy image shows root-colonizing bacteria clustering around an emerging lateral root, where localized glutamine leakage induces spatially confined reporter activity.
