20 years since Hurricane Katrina, climate change has made hurricanes even more dangerous in many ways. These graphs show some of those ways. @climatecentral.org

The ocean is much hotter than it was in 2005 when Hurricane Katrina made landfall. A graph showing that sea surface temperatures in 2025 are running about one degree Fahrenheit higher than they were in 2005. The sea level in coastal Louisiana has risen dramatically since 2005. A graph showing sea level rise is increasing in Grand Isle, Louisiana. Rainfall from tropical cyclones is getting more intense. A graph showing that rainfall from hurricanes in the Northern Atlantic has gotten heavier since 2005. Hurricanes are getting stronger more quickly, leaving less time for communities to evacuate. A bar chart showing that more and more hurricanes are intensifying at least 58 mph in 24 hours.
