Who's still calling anyone a lower class of person than anyone else?! I don't even like the word class as applied to people, never mind 'lower' - no-one would ever self-describe as that.

Spent last night in Stockport Travelodge, full of contractors, and it wasn't dissimilar to this.

Poor wages didn't reach to renting rooms, so dosshouses were essential. You could cook if you had ingredients and you could drink and smoke. It was close social life. Later you slept on a rope or sitting up unless you had extra pence to lie on the floor. www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/gin-lane-t...

Oops, alt text for the photo: the left end of a deserted crescent of Georgian brick townhouses, at night, lit by a traditional-style street lamp.

Until the other night, I'd somehow never walked any distance down the Calendonian Road. For somewhere so central it still has a bit of spirit, doesn't it, as well as pure Paddington 2 moments like this.

Coming soon: your next door neighbour makes you a kit-based Franco Manca and you pay an app £21.

Insane. Though I know from recent experience that it's impossible to get more than £2 for almost anything at a car boot.

Keep trying folks, these things actually do happen:

Today’s insane boot score. Hand/screen printed Westwood Pistols tees (that have definitely lived the life)

You might have heard of 'dark kitchens' when a row of sheds in a car park churn out food for Deliveroo. They're unpopular and low margin. So the next big thing in London food is 'host kitchens' where local pubs, restaurants and kebab shops cook for big brands. www.londoncentric.media/p/host-kitch...
Why your next upmarket Deliveroo might be made by your local kebab shop

For years I've been using DVD players, with no problems.

My pal @thelrm.bsky.social reading from her wonderful new book at Housman's. I may know her but I'd truly recommend it to all interested in walking freely and creatively in towns/cities; her personal stories are beautifully and compellingly interwoven w/ her and others' views, research and theories.
Morag, in black patterned dress and with magenta hair, reading from her paperback book into a black microphone to an audience on the floor of Housman's bookshop. The cover of the book, with an urban skyline down the left edge and a rural one down the right, and the title 'The Feminist Art Of Walking, Morag Rose', down the middle over a pinkish sky.

No no no no no! Passed these on the way home from Derbyshire last month, they were stunning, and their form resonates with so many of us (pun unintended).

💥12 months ago Britain's last coal-fired power station, Ratcliffe-on-Soar in Nottinghamshire, shut down after 50 years powering the national grid. We can now confirm that C20's listing application for Ratcliffe's 8 cooling towers has been rejected by DCMS, while their demolition has been approved.

The Bootleg Beatles at the RAH - still got it, to an incredible degree.

Ooh, and Trafford!

Sorry, pathetic City fan joke that I've absorbed, despite not really caring.

I've just received next year's Emma Bridgewater pocket diary, themed around colour - you might like it!

I'm sad the exhibition will be gone when I come down in late Nov.
The cover of the diary, with circles of the different colours used by the pottery firm. The title pages for July, with 15 circles of deep Lion Yellow on the left hand page.

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:
www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employmen...
Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

The Ozzy and Sharon doc seemed to start badly but ended up being so sad. They must all be devastated but especially her - though she was clearly so glad that he fulfilled his wishes.
