Still think about how amazing that Charli XCX show was at Target Center.

She is on stage, by herself, no band or back up dancers and has the crowd in her hand.

2/2 why the CBA is not fair for #wnba players
Before the players can get anything from bucket one, 42% is taken by the NBA. That money is then split between all NBA owners, even ones that do not have a WNBA team in their city.
42% NBA owner cut
Bucket one (ticket sales + media deal)
Bucket two (BRI + everything else)
90.7% league cut
9.3% WNBA players’ cut
Bucket one after NBA cut
Then the last step before the players get their cut is comparing the remaining amount to a value known only internally in the WNBA front office called the cumulative revenue target. If the remaining amount is larger than that value players are then entitled to 9.3% of the bucket.
That means that the 9.3% is really 5.39% of the pre-NBA cut bucket and an even smaller percentage of the full incoming revenue. A far cry from a 50/50 split. I will note that the percentage (9.3%) used to be higher. In 2019 it was 11.1% and it had been growing steadily but it has been frozen at 9.3% since the covid ‘wubble’ season.
52.61% WNBA owners’+ leadership’s cut
42% NBA owners’ cut
5.39% WNBA players’ cut

Good explainer on why the current #WNBA CBA is not fair for the players.

1/2
WNBA Money
WNBA players are not paid enough. That’s simple. But their compensation is not.
One lesser known source of monetary compensation for WNBA players (and NBA players as well) is: revenue sharing. Once the league takes in all of its money for the year it pays back some to the players based on how well they did. For the NBA the calculation is quite simple. All of the revenue goes into a bucket and it gets split 50/50.
50% Players’ cut
50% Money used to pay owners pay expenses pay leadership…
NBA revenue sharing (all revenue before expenses)
The WNBA’s current deal isn’t so simple. Under the current cba, incoming revenue gets split into two different categories or buckets. Bucket one consists of ticket sales and the money from the media deal while bucket two comprises every other source of income for the league including a category called BRI. BRI or basketball related income is everything sold with a player’s likeness on it. think jerseys, t-shirts, ad campaigns, bobbleheads and so much more. Players don’t get a dime from bucket two.

As an elder millennial ex evangelical kid, Turning Point doing their own half time show for the Super Bowl is nothing new! Our family and youth group would get a VHS from Sport Spectrum (Christian SI) to play at halftime. I missed out on the epic U2 show in honor of 9/11 lol.

as always it remains insane how much people are obsessed with using AI to make art

now, say you were interviewing someone who had to reply to a bunch of work emails, some of them pretty rude -- that's a use case! where the output only has to be mid, and where it's emotionally unpleasant to get thru

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

It is pretty galling that the Supreme Court spent four years telling Biden "you can't do that without Congress" then allowed Trump to seize a once-unthinkable amount of power from Congress within nine months and concentrate law-making authority almost entirely in the executive branch.

When the Supreme Court struck down Biden's policies, it was tempting to think: "At least these limits on executive authority will bind Trump if he comes back into office." But no—the court's skepticism of executive power vanished on Jan. 20, 2025. This dynamic is obvious to anyone paying attention!

Yes, I know they’ll still mostly vote R because culture is everything, but some will abandon magical thinking.

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.
wrote 20 pages on Faulkner's The Bear four hours before final papers were due on trucker pills and coffee and cigarettes and got an A, fuck you.
