Those last two sentences? They apply to everything.
This is the biggest attack on free speech since the McCarthy era but it also has significantly less popular consensus behind it than the second Red Scare. It's being done on behalf of a minority faction led by the most unpopular president in modern history. Organizing against this can win.
We must mobilize now, defending the rule of law, safeguarding our communities, and rejecting a path toward authoritarian normalization. We must call on our West Coast leaders to create a coalition between our states to protect our freedom and rights.
If this pattern continues, it’s middle- and working-class neighborhoods, especially those already marginalized, that will bear the brunt: subjected to heightened surveillance, checkpoints, and enforcement actions under the guise of “security.”
Critics, from city officials to legal experts, see this as authoritarian overreach. Many warn it could become a playbook for expanding federal control into other liberal-led cities. Seattle and others are already working on legal and operational strategies to protect local autonomy.
What’s unfolding in D.C. is not just a local incident, it’s a warning sign. In August, the President declared a “crime emergency” in D.C., took control of the Metro Police, and deployed National Guard troops, soon to be armed, in major transit hubs, despite violent crime dropping to a 30-yr low

After campaigning on a claim that he would deport undocumented immigrants with a criminal record—a policy that has broad support—Trump is now increasingly arresting persons with no criminal record of any kind.

When a homeless man questioned the Phoenix police’s authority to stop him in Feb. 2020, an officer knelt on his neck while another shocked him with a Taser.

Another unhoused man said officers threw away his things, telling him, “You guys are trash and this is trash.”

Am I crazy or did we just have a convo about how we can't fund cancer research?
Remember when he said, ‘We’ll be so rich, you won’t believe it’?

Now it’s, ‘Your kids get two toys this Christmas.’

What a journey.
I truly don’t understand how Democrats in Congress aren’t shouting every day.
We’re calmly following Robert’s Rules while asking Kristi Noem why the Administration is ignoring a #SCOTUS ruling and disappeared a lawful resident.

This polite detachment is surreal.

No rights. No judicial warrant. No due process.

Our neighbors: kidnapped, deported, disappeared.

This is not justice. This is cruelty.

A registry of neurodivergent people is not just unnecessary — it’s dangerous. There’s no justifiable reason to track people this way unless you have something sinister in mind. We must speak out now and demand policies that protect, not target, neurodivergent communities.

Washington state’s parking reform bill—which applies to cities with >30k residents & counties—sets a ceiling for parking at 0.5 stalls required max for multifamily apartments & 1 stall for every 1k sq ft of commercial space. Also eliminates requirements for affordable housing, mixed use, other uses.
The State Senate officially signed off on the Parking Reform and Modernization Act, sending it to Governor Ferguson's desk.
SB 5184 passes 64-31!

Parking reform has officially passed both chambers of the Washington legislature!
This will absolutely cripple the US non-profit sector.
