A dramatic overhaul of the nation’s refugee system “would deliberately leave vulnerable people in danger all around the world, rendering it unrecognizable,” shares Naomi S., HIAS' VP of U.S. policy and advocacy.

HIAS shares our overwhelming relief as the ceasefire begins & hostages return home. For those receiving the bodies of their loved ones, may they find comfort & closure in their proper burial. We pray this marks the beginning of healing for everyone impacted by over two years of conflict & suffering.

People are people — equally holy & equally deserving of safety, home, & food when hungry.

HIAS has consistently called to release the hostages & deliver desperately-needed humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza.

The absolute truth: Gaza needs a massive and unobstructed aid effort to save lives.

Jewish values teach us to uphold the humanity of each and every person.

For the sake of hundreds of thousands of starving people – including the hostages – humanitarian aid must be let in immediately.

Disturbing news 🚨 the US Supreme Court just ruled the Trump admin. can resume deporting people to countries that they're not from without due process or the chance to challenge their removal in court.

This includes some of the world's most dangerous prisons in El Salvador, South Sudan, and Libya.

This is horrific. The antisemitic “Great Replacement Theory” institutionalized within the US government.
Grateful to @marisakabas.bsky.social for the critical scoop.
SCOOP: The State Department's new reorganization plan includes the opening of an "Office for Remigration," a term popularized by far right extremists and neo-Nazis in Europe. The office will coordinate directly with DHS "to advance the President’s immigration agenda."

My report:
State Department set to launch ‘Office of Remigration’
The concept of remigration has explicitly neo-Nazi roots and has been popularized in Europe.

Repeat with us: there is no invasion at the U.S.-Mexico border.

We know our immigration system is broken, and U.S. border policy needs urgent & meaningful reform. But further militarizing our border won’t address the reasons people are seeking safety & only puts people at greater risk.

Breaking ‼️ Congress just passed an outrageous funding Continuing Resolution.

Not only does this bill provide millions more to fund detention & deportation, it threatens the safety and rule of law for immigrants in the United States. Read more:

The threat of deportation is being used to instill fear in communities across the country.

This week, we've seen a frightening new iteration of that: apprehending & intending to deport a Green Card Holder who had been outspoken about his political viewpoints.

When I was a Hill staffer in 2009, a Dem trifecta was trying to pass universal healthcare. In response, Senate GOP released a memo detailing all of the tactics they in the minority could use to delay the effort as much as possible. I'm recirculating that 2009 GOP memo here. Take inspiration from it.
Trump’s decision to indefinitely suspend refugee resettlement places vulnerable people in immediate danger.

This is a long-standing, safe, bipartisan legal pathway that strengthens national security and has enormous economic & cultural benefits.

Trump’s pause of refugee resettlement might not get as much attention as some of his other actions today.

But it’s “going to be devastating for people who followed the rules and are waiting to get out of danger and be with their families”, says @hias-refugees.bsky.social’s @mjhetfield.bsky.social.

Advocacy works-

After a flood of calls from concerned constituents, more than 2/3 of the Democrats who previously voted for the problematic “nonprofit killer” bill, H.R. 9495, have reversed their positions.
