Despite what some, including at DHS, are claiming, this video isn’t from a year ago in Chicago. It was Friday in Hoffman Estates, in my district, a street I’ve walked myself. It appears to show a child being violently detained by ICE. It’s real, and I’m demanding accountability.

"During the encounter, Greeley said they told her she 'doesn’t look like' a Greeley."

www.yahoo.com/news/article...
Chicago Tribune: Greeley, who was born at Illinois Masonic hospital and is adopted, carries a copy of her passport just in case she runs into federal agents.

“I am Latina and I am a service worker,” Greeley said. “I fit the description of what they’re looking for now.”

During the encounter, Greeley said they told her she “doesn’t look like” a Greeley.

“They said this isn’t real, they kept telling me I’m lying, I’m a liar,” Greeley recalled. “I told them to look in the rest of my wallet, I have my credit cards, my insurance.”

fluctuations given their capital capacity and long-term growth strategy. I'm alright with this, as it gets housing built. I wonder how appropriate or prudent it is for "mom and pop" to be landlords.

But we need the state to be more involved in *enforcing* LTB regs.

The policy is working as intended. Also:

"However, lowering rents isn’t so easy for many mom-and-pop landlords who bought during the height of housing market speculation early in the COVID-19 pandemic."

Which contrasts with larger developers who can absorb...

‘If there is no demand, we can’t operate’: Small landlords ponder future after foreign student cuts

The formidable price alone represents a massive opportunity cost. Could we spend these billions on stabilizing relations? Could these funds be used to stabilize other nations, improving economic and security conditions?

Regardless, eyes wide open: things have changed.

This is the attitude of some American business operators. And they're wrong, it is largely economics, as the Trump admin has hurt us considerably.

“Canadians just aren’t happy. It’s not economic policy. It’s these hurtful things said about their country.”

A frustrating read. The interviewees acknowledge no agency and therefore take no responsibility.

“This was all about some ugliness that we’re not part of,” Moore said. “We’re not in politics. We’re just some guys in Virginia making good whisky. But unfortunately, we’re the victims.”

The US trade war & annexationist push against Canada. H/t @sueinnovates.bsky.social. Apparently, Americans are the victims. Missing, except for a vague comment: 10 months in, there is zero acknowledgement of political agency or the possibility of change on the US side.

Someone in my mentions is upset because these people haven’t suffered the worst at ICE’s hands and therefore they shouldn’t be praised for being out on the streets?

Yeah, no. To push back on these people we need everyone — especially those with relative privilege — to get up and get involved.

Mind linking me to the Angus Reid article? Please and thank you.

Yes, it largely is a farce in its current manifestation. It's a costly anachronism. Door-to-door delivery is not needed in urban centres, and should be reserved for rural communities.
nodepolitik.ca
How so? I mean, of course that is CUPW's intention. It's their job.
nodepolitik.ca
for people who have disabilities to get delivery to their doors, and of course I back that.

So, no, not about my location. If only politics were reducible to social location...
nodepolitik.ca
want to keep services for rural communities, I'd back that. "Inefficient", sure, as rural communities are. But I attribute value to the solidarity and social contract we have in ensuring all Canadians are served.

But in an urban setting? Yeah, door-to-door is a farce. There already is a service..
nodepolitik.ca
As for my social location, it's not all that relevant here. It isn't just me who isn't using letter mail. It is declining YoY rapidly, despite being priced below what you and I agree it should be.

As such, I consider it an anachronism, save for rural communities. If CUPW said they just...
nodepolitik.ca
Oh no no, I did not make that claim. The point of infrastructure is to deliver goods and services. I argued that CUPW is trying to make the infrastructure about keeping 53k emplpyed.
nodepolitik.ca
This reads as "CUPW analyzed the report and determined that it was good for CUPW". I am unconvinced. This feels like reading that the Toronto Police Association validates a Toronto Police Service study indicating that more boots on the ground makes communities safer.
nodepolitik.ca
I would, for example, spend "inefficiently" on universal services, like healthcare, because it has a value not comprehensively captured by economic thought. Life's value is greater than that, whereas I do not attribute any special value to letter mail. It's... frankly, a farce at this juncture.
