A fire salamander (Salamandra salamandra) on a damp path. Fire salamanders aren't present in GB but plenty around in northern France (and elsewhere, no doubt). They're black, about 10-15 cms long and have bright yellow (sometimes orange) flashes along their bodies and legs - as if someone has been at them with a fluorescent marker pen.

I suspect you're back from your trip by now so I hope all went well. I read about you getting the new car (a few days ago?) but hadn't realised you'd had an accident. It can knock confidence but it will come back. Look after yourself. x

I love European hornets and we do have a nest in an old owl box on the end gable but they're a pita when they get into the house. I'm not so fond of them that I want to risk being stung by a dopey one tucked into a cushion on a sofa for eg (did happen to me with a wasp). 😬

That'll be fun to manage. At one stage, we had 3 chocolate labs - mother + litter son & daughter. Mother & son were very laid back but daughter became a bully. She was okay with her bro but once Ma began to slow down (aged about 8 or 9) we had to separate Ma from daughter. It happens. 🤷‍♀️ Good luck. 🤞

There were quite a few in various stages of...growth? Decay? Yes, shouts 'avoid me' but many years ago, in a café in Greece, my sister & I had a daily fly agaric cake. No fungal ingredients - just chocolate cake decorated with icing + strawberry jam to look like a stubby mushroom. Very addictive. 😎

Morning. ☕ Yesterday's walk was full of fungi - some might have even been edible... not that I'd know as I severely doubt my identication capabilities so I left everything where it was. I know a young (poisonous) fly agaric when I see it tho. #BonWeekend

Grey morning but due to be brighter later and next week is looking good too. Am about to eat my weekend pain aux raisins with an espresso. Life is good. #BonWeekend to all. Am not sure what we're up to yet... possibly the market at Avranches or Granville.

There's not that much colour around here yet - just particular trees in odd places. We went for a walk around a nearby lake today and tree colour hasn't really developed there - some sheltered areas still looked like spring; The birches were changing colour tho.
