New Orleans officials are currently asking a federal court to terminate a consent decree that restricts their police force activities, including their participation in immigration enforcement. The matter is still pending in court.
New Orleans May Hand Its Police Live Facial Recognition Tech. Critics Warn It’ll Help ICE.
The city says it won’t lend this tool to ICE for surveillance. But a state law requires that local officials assist ICE, and New Orleans also wants to end a court order restricting compliance.

Black August began in 1979 inside CA prisons as a month of reflection, discipline and political education to honor the lives of Black freedom fighters killed by the state. It was first observed by the Black Guerilla Family and other imprisoned revolutionaries in San Quentin.
