It’s an offshoot of the “everyone is 12” theory.

“What if I want to drive 500 miles towing a trailer at 80 mph??”

Idk I hear Duramax are popular with 12 year olds.

The V90 is good looking enough and rare enough that well specced ones are basically guaranteed to become classics.

I just gotta figure out the bottom of that depreciation curve.

TDI not GTI on the sportwagon.
oldvolvos.bsky.social
Including car purchased with/for my wife.

2007 VW GTI
2012 Mazda 3
2013 (?) VW Jetta Sportwagon GTI
2017 Subaru Outback
2018 Mazda6

That may be it for some time, just bought my first “certified pre-owned” and how to replace the Subaru with a modern classic.

As an aside paying sales tax on electricity seems wrong for some reason.

First DC fast charging experience at this lovely stop on the NJ Turnpike.

The charger claimed up to 400 kW and seemed to work as it should and was reasonably priced.

Almost flawless, except somehow fast charging messed up the audio and required an infotainment reboot.

Just Polestar things.

They wanted 250 million for a HD in my district, which sure sounds like a lot but it’s not getting any cheaper.

Honestly, it a hard sell needed or not.

I have a NACS adapter but hope to never have to give money to a certain gentleman.

I’ve never actually level 3 charged, but plan to use the newly installed universal chargers on the NJ Turnpike tomorrow.

Bingo — The “from Hamilton” boomer is a whole thing in towns 55+ places to the south of Hamilton.
oldvolvos.bsky.social
Kinda an aside after reading the article…….

I guess this will change as everyone switches to NACS but is the supercharger network really that much better for non-Tesla owners. Most of the superchargers around me are not open to non-teslas.

Nothing an LS swap can’t fix.

I think the problem is "E-Bike" basically means class III e-bikes and no normal person knows the difference anyway.

The bike rack outside my middle school is filled with ONLY class III e-bikes.

I think it would be easier to rebrand class I and II bikes at this point.

I was going to say I doubt anyone under 40 cares, but then I remembered my 10 year old daughter loves FM radio.

I get a stripper model, but some of these changes just feel like they are punishing the buyer for cheapening out.
oldvolvos.bsky.social
Logically this makes sense, but an honest bare bones car feels different than a company removing a feature to punish you.

My east coast mind can not comprehend the ability to get Spam Musubi and a Cheesy Gordita Crunch at a gas station.

I’ve been a mediocre middle aged white guy for a while and have enjoyed the privileges thereof. But becoming a woodshop teacher has opened a whole new world of privilege.

Everyone loves it, blue collar people white collar people.

It’s too much congeniality for one introvert.

After 12 days of not being able to drive my car, my plates finally arrived, now I never have to deal with Volvo Westport again……..

Wait I almost forgot they owe me $400

Buying a car out of state is so fun….
oldvolvos.bsky.social
Is it a plus or a minus if you get stuck behind an Amish buggy.
oldvolvos.bsky.social
A trans friend of mine was filmed without her knowledge using these when car shopping. The video was blasted all over social media and quickly made it back to her place of work.

Fuck these things.
oldvolvos.bsky.social
I’m about a week away from forgoing all charging incentives and professional electricians and installing the charger myself.

Buying an EV is starting to feel like a mistake, not a huge mistake but a mistake.

So either AI flames out and there is a huge crash or AI suddenly replaces all the jobs and there is a huge economic meltdown. Do I have that correct? Who is going to win this bet?
justinhendrix.bsky.social
"The hundreds of billions of dollars companies are investing in AI now account for an astonishing 40 per cent share of US GDP growth this year... In a way, then, America has become one big bet on AI."
America is now one big bet on AI
It’s seen as the magic fix for every threat to the US economy

The other thing I forgot: my cousin did everything himself. Fabrication, wiring, paint, etc. He's a diesel mechanic by day.

My dad, this cousin, and his next-youngest brother (my cousins were Very Cool to me when I was little) are a big part of why I'm a car enthusiast today.

My cousin stopped by with his recently completed build. When a mostly intact 4-door & a rotted out coupe meet and love each other very much...
Up close of the front right corner of my cousin's '67 (I think) Chevy SS. The chrome is very shiny, and the tires are meaty and fresh. It's painted a dark reddish-bronze. Autumn sunlight shines on trees in the background.

That’s a bit better.
