NEW: Since October 2023, the IDF Spokesperson's Unit has released dozens of 3D animations illustrating alleged Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iranian sites

The style is now unmistakable: satellite zoom-ins, black & white wireframes, and red-textured houses - a new visual language of war

Yes, but mfg is almost all of it. And that can be decarbonised
oskarwoodhansen.bsky.social
Mmm, since the emissions come from production, not use, I think it's not 'just reporting'. It's not like a car, where you have prod and use-phase emissions

Daniel Levy making the point that the fault line in Israeli society isn't about the genocide in Gaza but centres around the govt deprioritising the return of the hostages.

I'm no IPE specialist, but I had this exact reaction when I read J mecklings perspective on Nature on the geoeconomic turn in decarbonisation. Curious to hear what you think?

I'm not an economist but seems worrying that the whole US economy is seven companies in a trenchcoat, passing the same $20 up and down

A heavyweight synthesis of the turn toward green industrial policy. Impressive range. Makes me wonder, what if geoeconomics was always the central force in climpol? Previously, it manifested as distributional conflict over the decarb costs, stifling action. Now, it drives a race for benefits?

The utility industry's business model is one of the key drivers of the electricity affordability crisis underway. A key part of the story flagged here: low-income ratepayers being forced to transfer wealth to high-income utility investors.
kevinjkircher.com
Why are electric bills so high? If your monopoly utility spends $10 million on wires and transformers, your state will let them increase prices to recover the $10M plus ~$1M per year, every year for the foreseeable future. You and your neighbors will pay ~$35M for ~$10M of infrastructure.

Is hostility to immigration something that people develop spontaneously based on their own experiences, or is it deliberately cultivated by politicians and the press?

The authors of this FT don’t say so, but it’s hard not to see this figure as evidence for the latter. www.ft.com/content/43da...
A graph showing that in a survey of British people, immigration is rated as the most important for the country, but among the lowest for importance to them personally.

This so much! Common hard2a examples seem to be mostly expensive2a (e.g. steel and cement, see SaltX in Sweden). Transport and Ag are different, but here demand-side changes are key

📣AI propaganda factories🏭 are now operational. My study shows how small, open-weight models can run as fully automatic generators in influence campaigns. mechanising personas, engagement, cadence. Possible for State, non-state, and micro-actors, including and bedroom ones.
