Extreme #Arctic warmth areas 80N+ are on course to be +15C above normal this October.

Large areas of open ocean exceptionally far north which should be frozen on Atlantic side, closer to normal on Pacific side.

Preliminary data suggests that today's
42.5C at Telfer ,Australia might be the world's highest temperature, since maximums in Iran,Senegal,Mauritania and Mexico have dropped.

This would mark the first day of the season with the Southern Hemisphere recording the hottest spot.

The shrew’s extinction increases the tally of Australian mammals extinct since 1788 to 39 species. This is far more than for any other country. These losses represent about 10% of all Australia’s land mammal species before colonisation 🧪

And then there were none: Australia’s only shrew declared extinct
Australia’s only known shrew has been declared extinct. Its loss emphasises the need for national protection of Australia’s rare and unique wildlife.

Seeing this view everyday is quite boring... 🙃

Now that everyone has seen it or knows about it, I think it's time for Zermatt to consider erasing the summit to building a complex of hôtels! 🤪

This place truly lacks decent accommodation! 🤑

Here is a closer look at the record low #Arctic sea ice around Svalbard currently. This coincides with the record warmth as well (check out my earlier post). Earlier last week temperatures in parts of Svalbard were more similar to July than October.
