Her joy has been seen as inauthentic, her passion has been misconstrued as arrogance. I’ve seen white dude politicians behave the same way in similar scenarios and not catch nearly the same amount of ire or contempt as her.

I don’t defend Kamala Harris because I stan for her. I’ve criticized her on multiple occasions for not being strong enough on a variety of policies. The issue I have is that she gets a unique, visceral vitriol you don’t see other Democratic politicians get.
And it DOES have to do with her identity.

Heckling her out of contempt does what, exactly? I would get if she had any ability to affect policy. But she doesn’t. Yes, her book tour is regarding her failed campaign…but it is to give context to her attempt to run as president while being a private citizen.

She is, in the appropriate definition of the term, a private citizen. She has no political power at the moment. Her role as vice president has received far more scrutiny and criticism than virtually anyone else to fill that role, with the possible exception of Dick Cheney.

There are many people who fail to run for office, and even more who fail given far more time than her to put together a functioning campaign. And yet despite it all she seems to have far more ire than most of those figures. To pretend her identity has literally nothing to with it is disingenuous.

I’m not trying to sound selfish or downplay what is going on in the Middle East, nor will I claim that Democratic politicians have been terrific on the issue. But it is frustrating when people have legitimate concerns about how conservatives will affect their lives here and you go “BUT GAZA!”

As an addendum to this, I want to say something and I don’t want to come off as dismissive: dealing with the genocide in Gaza is extremely high priority. But it is not the ONLY issue and there are things we are dealing with inside the nation that will have ramifications for years to come.

You know what? Good for her. I have my issues with Harris but at this point what is the point of paying for an event to yell at her, specifically? I’ve yet to see anyone show this much ire for a former vice president except *maybe* Dick Cheney. Just feels like a ton of unnecessary ire.

Something similar happened with the Rocky movies. The first two were excellent character dramas then it turned into just “a boxing movie” for III and IV. We don’t talk about V. Balboa did a good job re-railing the series, though.

I don’t see why people refuse to look at the things she says through that lens. She’s talking about how Kirk was becoming anti-Israel and that’s why he died when, coupled with all of her other talking points, is basically her saying “The Jews killed my best friend!”
