I’ve seen so many articles about folks in rural areas of states (waves to Louisiana - you’re next) who've had their drinking water go bad or go dry after one of these resource-sucking behemoths moves in.

Also recall one AI CEO telling people not to worry because “AI will solve these problems”. lol

Highly recommend setting aside some time to read the full investigation into Oregon's AI-fueled toxic drinking water crisis by @rollingstone.com and @thefern.org

It’s one of the most important pieces of accountability reporting I’ve seen this year
‘The precedent is Flint’: How Oregon’s data center boom is supercharging a water crisis | Food and Environment Reporting Network
In the spring of 2022, Jim Doherty kept having the same conversation with folks at the only grocery store in Boardman, his eastern Oregon hometown, or at the grain depot where he picked up food for…

Everyone knows data centers use a ton of water.

What hardly anyone knows: they can poison the water that remains.

And in eastern Oregon, Amazon is doing exactly that.

Average electricity cost increase since Jan:

Missouri ⬆️ 37%
Iowa ⬆️ 30%
North Dakota ⬆️ 30%
Oklahoma ⬆️ 30%
New Jersey ⬆️ 27%
Nebraska ⬆️ 25%
Montana ⬆️ 25%
Wyoming ⬆️ 23%

NATIONWIDE ⬆️ 11%

Instead of working to lower costs, Trump is boosting power-hungry AI data centers.

There is literally no part of RFK JR that is even an iota of romantic and as far as danger goes I’m not even sure why women would want to sleep with someone they need a full series of penicillin, rabies and tetanus shots to even survive.

But to most others, Kennedy is a reckless conspiracy theorist whose appetite for danger will result in a sicker America.

I feel like we should be able to pick up the mocking tone from this headline. How do you *not* read 'the intoxicating appeal of being attacked by a Yak' as less than 200% earnest? I think we're so used to sanewashing and bullshit equivocating headlines that we see them everywhere now.
