The final test of if video games are really 'art' is if they can take on greater weight in hard times.

No. This is somewhere to be. This is all you have, but it's still something. Streets and sodium lights. The sky, the world. You're still alive.

You missed a golden opportunity there. We could've actually had the mythical Antifa they're looking for fully stood up by now if you convinced him to commit to the bit and start writing checks.

Loyalty of the troops is not guaranteed to anyone, that's why only the hand-picked private army of DHS is doing egregious shit right now. Everyone is uncertain about what happens if a 'this could be the Civil War' order comes down so no one is quite willing to jump yet.

U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) says he has been denied 4 times to see what is going on inside the Broadview, IL ICE facility:

"Something's going on in there that they don't want us to see. I don't know what it is, but all Americans should be asking the same question."

One of many ways in which the delusional version of Liberal America these assholes believe in is way cooler than what we have, but also represents a vision we may aspire to:

Thune laying out the Democratic Senate vision, a taco truck on every corner, full campus occupation by queer antifa alt girls

Yeah I would like to file a complaint about this. I was lead to believe that every college campus is occupied by hordes of tattooed, pierced, militant feminist socialists with alt hairstyles, imagine my dismay when I turn up and it's just more normal people. I was lied to and I think I should sue.

The current munitions stockpile for the US for things like artillery shells, JDAM bombs etc. would be depleted in less than a week for a major conflict in Asia (i.e. China invades Taiwan) and the US basically has no production capacity at the moment.

not only that, but when Dems do get organized and pay creators who are pushing aligned content, all of a sudden it becomes an attack line against them. meanwhile Russia literally pays conservative commentators and they are cool with it

Charlie Kirk was a terrible person, but his prowess at organizing was astonishing.

Democrats, progressive and moderate, are using tactics from the 1970s.

Republicans spend hundreds of millions on networking, jobs, and outreach every year. Democrats waste their money on obsolete stuff.

Charlie Kirk was a religious extremist and an advocate for mass censorship of academics he hated.

But as a political organizer and creator of opportunities for his comrades, there's much that can be learned from what he did. @matthewboedy.bsky.social discusses on the latest Theory of Change

So the future of our democracy is a ouija board.

Trump “i moved it more than they ever thought was possible. But I’m not moving it right now.”

Dems “We hope republicans will join us in moving it to the letters a c and a”

Klein “we have to accept they might stab us with the magnifier thingy. “

The fact that our civil society and institutions are so weak they're effectively frauds is how we got into this mess to begin with, but wasn't fully obvious until this year.

Unless they successfully steal the midterms it'll go against him. The hesitancy and halting faltering gestures at martial law and total autocratic rule will combo with rising costs and collapsing systems with Epstein as a lightning rod for low info citizens. Hegseth will drink again.

Times are dark now. They were much darker for Klemperer.

Though he survived, it was mostly luck. He didn’t have control over his own destiny. He definitely didn’t have many options.

We still do. That’s a reason to stay positive. Even more importantly, it’s why we have to continue to be active.
sitkaworldsfair.bsky.social
Victor Klemperer was born October 9, 1881.

This was his diary entry on his 52nd birthday, October 9, 1933, published in "I Will Bear Witness."

He did live to see the end of the Nazi regime and the end of the war.
October 9, Monday
Birthday wishes: To see Eva healthy once again, in our own house, at her harmonium. Not to have to tremble every morning and evening in anticipation of hysterics. To see the end of the tyranny and its bloody downfall. See my Eighteenth Century finished and
published. No pains in my side and no thoughts of death.
I do not believe that even one of these wishes will come true for me.

we went from a house that had 6.5-7 feet ceilings (depending how you measured) to a house with 23 ft ceilings in one room and frankly i’d prefer something in the middle

why do people do these things
toxicmicroceleb.bsky.social
Use it as practice, a show of force, networking & recruitment, a way to sort those too fearful to do anything from those who will take the minimal step if holding a sign.

Basics.

That's antifascism: seeing the fascist threat and actually combating it. That's what Trump is trying to paint as terrorism.
eladn.bsky.social
Some folks can't see the fascism, and so they have false optimism that causes them not to act against it.

Other folks see the fascism, and they feel so hopeless that they don't act against it.

What we need is a combination of the ability to see things honestly as well as to be empowered.

Waiting for SCOTUS TO rule that Alexander Hamilton's words carry less weight than King George's because the Western tradition has had kings for longer than it hasn't.

That said, this is pretty damn good.
reichlinmelnick.bsky.social
UPDATE: Judge Perry issued an opinion explaining why she blocked the Texas National Guard deployment in Chicago.

She begins with Alexander Hamilton’s rejection of a “preposterous” idea that the Constitution lets a President deploy a State’s militia to a different State for political retribution. 🧵
OPINION AND ORDER
Since this country was founded, Americans have disagreed about the appropriate division
of power between the federal government and the fifty states that make up our Union. This
tension is a natural result of the system of federalism adopted by our Founders. And yet, not even
the Founding Father most ardently in favor of a strong federal government believed that one
state's militia could be sent to another state for the purposes of political retribution, calling such
a suggestion "inflammatory," and stating "it is impossible to believe that [a President] would employ such preposterous means to accomplish their designs." But Plaintiffs contend that such
an event has come to pass, and argue that National Guard troops from both Illinois and Texas
have been deployed to Illinois because the President of the United States wants to punish state elected officials whose policies are different from his own.

"I call myself a theocratic libertarian, who wants a limited government that will ban pride parades, prohibit the appearance of trans people in public, force women to carry pregnancies to term, and ban same-sex marriage"
maxkennerly.bsky.social
Ross Douthat treats this guy like they're having some deep conversation about the relationship of Christianity and the government, but the dude is a garden-variety dull, shallow, hateful, worthless bigot with nothing interesting to say, just endless riffs on "God hates everything/everyone I do."
Douthat: So that’s the first purpose of your political project, for America to stop making God angry.

Wilson: Yes. And most people think that when they are confronted with that project, they think that we want to get our tentacles into everything and start controlling everything. I actually think we need limited government. The government should be significantly smaller than it is, and we need to curtail a lot of the busybodyness that we have. That’s why I would call myself a theocratic libertarian. There is a true libertarian element in this, and yet, the transcendent grounding for what we’re talking about means that we acknowledge the authority of God.

We have racked up quite a body count of awful crimes, and I believe the only way out is for us to repent and turn to Christ. This would be things like no more Pride parades, no more drag queen story hours, no more abortion on demand, no more legalized same-sex unions — all of that, done. That’s the repentance part.

Look, I get critiques of *how* someone conducts an interview.

But Wilson’s congregants include the Sec. of Defense, who invited a pastor in Wilson’s denomination to lead the first of a recurring worship service at the Pentagon.

If anything, it’s odd it took this long for outlets to interview him.
