I fully agree, the word "fascism" is losing its dark odor rapidly. Sooner or later some of the authoritarian parties in Europe will openly endorse it. The debates from the interwar period are back: Fascists are rising and portraying themselves as alternatives to rotten and ineffective democracies.
Mir scheint zwar, dass Trump sowas eher intuitiv als strategisch sagt, aber die daraus folgende Selbstimmuniserung ist womöglich ähnlich groß: Begriffe wie »Faschist« werden komplett entschärft, sind nur noch Schmunzelmaterial. Aus seiner Warte ziemlich effektiv.

So much of the long-term damage was baked in back in November 2024. You only get one “do over”; you can’t elect the guy twice and expect allies to believe “no really that’s not who we are.”
