My book THE SHAMSHINE BLIND was a Library Journal Top 10 SFF 2023, if you'd like a distraction this week in which folks doing the good work* capsize a conspiracy to turn the US into a theocratic dictatorship this sci-fi/noir/alt-history might be for you

My family can take down two large or three small roasted zucchini in a sitting, so maybe I have a skewed idea of how you would end up in a situation in which you consider adding jello to it—but also zucchini plants take up SO MUCH SPACE, how big are these people's vegetable patches???

if so, it is proof that AI was created solely to atomize us and destroy the fabric of society

This week in 1988: 1,000+ ACT UP demonstrators shut down the FDA headquarters, demanding (and eventually winning) action on developing HIV/AIDS treatments. ACT UP's militant and creative actions always included powerful visual artwork, and paved the way for movements in the decades to come.
A photograph from the 1988 ACT UP demonstration outside the FDA. Many people are participating in a die-in on the front steps, holding mock tombstones with messages like "RIP - killed by the FDA" and "Dead from lack of drugs." A line of police officers (some with classic 80s mustaches) wearing riot helmets stands between them and the building; one cop wearing white gloves is walking through the demonstrators. Affixed to the 2nd story windows of the building is a series of posters and a large blank banner reading Silence = Death.

Fascinating. I’m trying to figure out where the hell my dad got this since he doesn’t have any social media/watch fox/get info from any of the usual suspects (it’s NYT all day over there, which is its own problem but I don’t think goes this far?) I wonder if it snuck in via a friend

My publisher’s been very patient. I’m not doing everything I said I’d do to promote this book (out in a few weeks) because I’m an organizer in a city under federal attack. My days are full and emotionally exhausting. Any help getting the word out means a lot. It's a book people need right now.

The Trump administration on Saturday scrambled to rescind layoffs of hundreds of CDC scientists who were mistakenly fired on Friday night in what appeared to be a substantial procedural lapse.
