Cheers! I think he's referring to the idea that they were originally influenced by Gene's version of Over The Rainbow.

Just put on the new John Myrtle LP thanks to a link in the excellent new songs round-up in @petepaphides.bsky.social’s newsletter. He speaks of “the genial, borderline gauche strain of anti-mystique he brings to bear on his music.” It’s lovely stuff.

Here's a digest of new releases that have been caressing my cranium + a link to my most recent radio show.
Featuring, among others, the ever brilliant Michael J Sheehy, an absolute peach from Brit-jazz young'uns Oreglo & silksonic Indonesian soulsters Thee Marloes. www.patreon.com/posts/whats-...

This week I listened to The Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails for the first time In 30 years and it's very ahead of its time. By which I mean a lot of it sounds like the music in The Traitors. I also feel like if I spend long enough looking, there's probably a NIN song about traitors and faithfuls.

Happy release day to @tanitatikaram.bsky.social whose new album LIAR is, to my ears, her most complete & satisfying record to date. The arrangements & performances are breathtakingly gorgeous. And Tanita's voice is as smokily, inimitably sensational as ever. Listen: open.spotify.com/album/4KwiHA...

I’m so glad I saw this, I’d completely missed this too. Thank you!

The parallels between DSMD and the new JW album are salient. You know it doesn't stand a chance but if you can at least say in future years that you didn't let it pass you by and you tried to make *some* noise about it, well that's worth something.

In other news, here's the sometime deputy Conservative Prime Minister Michael Heseltine finding the words that seem to be perpetually eluding the present Labour Prime Minister.
bbcnewsnight.bsky.social
“You described Reform and other parties across Europe today as among the 'right wing equivalents of the fascists in the 1930s'. Why?”

“Because that’s what they are”

@vicderbyshire.bsky.social asks Lord Heseltine about remarks he made at Conservative Party Conference.

I get that there has to be a shared discourse around popular stuff but if I were JW, finally sharing the fruits of a decade's work with the world – and on the very same day, a surprise new T****r S***t album belly flops into the water, obliterating everything else, I'd probs be a bit down about that

It feels kind of crazy and a bit depressing to me that Jamie Woon's first album in ten years – an album I just can't stop playing at the moment – has come out this week to almost no reviews, no fanfare, no nothing. So I tried to do something about it here. www.patreon.com/posts/on-3-1...
