Well, I'm here, now. I'm glad to see that many of my favorite people (and cats) are here too, although I haven't searched for my entire list of previous follows from the bird site yet. Still also known as @[email protected] on Mastodon and u/PhD_Frog on Reddit.

There are a lot of things that the average American doesn’t understand about politics.

But everyone understands “he bulldozed the White House.”
The White House East Wing has been completely demolished. The demolition is basically at the main White House walls.
I'm proud to be a total lowlife if that's what they're calling folks who prefer democracy to an insane king nowadays.
This is why Trump is tearing down the White House. He's having a temper tantrum about his poll numbers and this is a more extreme form of throwing ketchup at the walls.
On top of that, inflatable frogs 🐸 and unicorns 🦄 are making fun of him! Waaah! 😭 3/
He didn't win the Nobel Peace Prize, he didn't end the war in Gaza, and neither Putin nor Zelensky are willing to take orders from him about Ukraine. Republicans are getting blamed for the shutdown, his poll numbers are down, and No Kings didn't turn out to be a leftist riot. 2/
I have a theory that demolishing the WH is the new throwing ketchup on the wall; a more extreme temper tantrum because things aren't going his way. 1/
I've been wondering why Grijalva doesn't just crash one of Johnson's press briefings with a Bible and demand to take the oath on the spot.

FYI :“Destruction of federal property is a federal crime. 18 U.S. Code § 1361 defines the crime as willfully injuring or committing any depredation against U.S. government property. If the damage exceeds $1k it is a felony with a fine, up to ten years in prison or both.”

Awaiting law enforcement.
It's obscene to see the US flag in the background of this footage. This is what our foreign enemies tried to do to us: The British in 1814. The 9/11 terrorists. Trump is not only aligning himself with enemies to our country, he IS our enemy.
This makes me sick. I knew that there was an organization that had responsibility for maintaining the historical character of the White House and approving all changes, but not that Trump had deliberately decapitated it.
"Frog" was my childhood nickname; I wear glasses, and decided to go with it instead of getting offended. Plus there was Kermit and all that, green was what I wanted to be. Nowadays I'm sure glad that frogs have been liberated from being a racist/facist meme to heroes of decency and democracy! 🐸
I wonder if these images might do more to turn people against Trumpism than anything else he's ever said or done. It makes me want to throw up, anyway. 🤮 Trump's done what the 9/11 terrorists failed to do to the White House....
The images of the White House destruction are gut-wrenching. If Trump taking a figurative wrecking ball to American democracy and institutions wasn't bad enough, here he's doing it literally to the people's house.
“As construction proceeds on the White House grounds, employees should refrain from taking and sharing photographs of the grounds, to include the East Wing, without prior approval”

Exclusive | Treasury Tells Employees Not to Share Photos of White House Ballroom Construction
Images of the demolition of parts of the East Wing went viral on Monday, and Treasury’s headquarters next door to the White House has a front-row seat.

Indeed. There was that big structural reconstruction in the Truman(?) administration where they had to add steel framing to keep the building from collapsing, but since then most of the renovations of the public spaces have been aimed at restoring/preserving the history of the building.
They also implicitly debunked some of the false right-wing claims, like that the protesters or organizers were paid by George Soros, that the participants all hate America or are communists or violent radicals, etc.
OTOH, I was very pleasantly surprised by the article in the Colorado Springs Gazette, which is normally super-conservative in its editorial policies. In-depth interviews with the local organizers and a focus on the many military veterans who participated.

‘We have to do something’: No Kings movement returns to Colorado Springs

I know there are some people out there who will never forgive or forget, but going after folks who now come out publicly to say they regret having enabled Trump and want to make amends is hardly likely to encourage others to peel off the Trump bandwagon.
A few days ago I skeeted about repentance and forgiveness in the context of Chris Christie, and in the post-Trump era we're going to have to grapple with this on a larger scale, like the problem of the Confederates after the Civil War or the Germans who supported Hitler after WW II.
Not "everyone" else just accepts this as the way things are. 🤮 I'm beyond disgusted, even though I've known he's not been fit to hold public office for decades.
Me too. The organizers did a great job, and all the people in costume deserve credit for making it fun too!
That's changing as Colorado Springs is growing very rapidly and becoming quite purple nowadays. The surrounding rural areas are still deep red.
Some photos from #NoKingsDay Colorado Springs. Lots of folks dressed up in inflatable costumes!
