Thought I’d do a wee intro thread.

I am a writer, critic and the editor of I Am Stone: The Gothic Weird Tales of R Murray Gilchrist for the British Library’s excellent Tales of the Weird series 1/x

Saw a guy when I was in Italy with a shirt that said “Anti Antifa” and it took every fibre of my being (and, to be fair, the fact he was fucking huge) not to go “so you’re fa?”

Once you realise you can believe that “I dislike x” but “x is good” simultaneously then a tiny door opens in your mind

Had a bit of a fallow period in the charity shops recently but this Ken Currie exhibition catalogue from the early 90s might mark a change in fortunes

Went to see Sleeper last night. A band who’re inexplicably celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of their first album despite it only being released *checks notes* oh

Oh no.

Had to come back from Glasgow the long way today, which means driving past the giant horsehead sculptures of the Kelpies. At night, from a moving vehicle, they look absolute fucking demonic.

Thinking about the time a colleague wrote defunct as de-funked and how that actually works better.

Love this KXP track. Only caveat is that it’s then very easy to fall into the whole Finnish psych scene and end up in a sauna somewhere.

It cannot be made clearer.

If you continue to support the Harry Potter franchise in any way, you are directly funding the removal of trans people's human rights in the UK.

They were the final band I saw at Roadburn last year. Really good! You heard the KXP stuff or Kaukolampi’s solo work?

Any Edinburgh-adjacent weirdsters should pop into @argonautbooks.bsky.social to take advantage of their #TalesOfTheWeird ( @blpublishing.bsky.social ) sale and grab a spoooky tote to boot!

DS3’s Firelink Shrine is the best hub location but emerging from Thngs Betwixt into Majula is always special.

It’s worth getting in touch. Ande and the team are really cool.

Yeah, it’s a shame. Seemed to happen pretty quickly so I don’t know what the situation was.

I’ve finished Bloodborne and DS3. Demons Souls is good but can be a slog in parts.

Dark Souls 3. Absolutely flawless. Bloodborne is not even second place but it’s 1.5 place.

People come up to me in the village street and they shout through the bars of my carriage. “Pietersen,” they growl in their proletarian way. “Why do you play these miserable and difficult games?”

It is, I condescend, because I myself am difficult and miserable.

Falling out of time in the DS3 expansion and finding the weird remnants of Earthen Peak is hell of a thing

Dark Souls 3 is perhaps the best game of all time but DS2 has a strange charm, a dreamlike quality that’s there right from the start whilst also being absolutely brutal.
