Part 2 of Chainsaw Man is still abrasive to many, but the latest chapter shows why others put faith in Fujimoto. A little backstory recontextualises so much of the story and characters

We're used to stories being up front and mysteries sign posted. But sometimes being less up front has more impact

The funniest thing to me in the world was when the 360 launched Tomonobu Itagaki doing a press tour for DoA4 and being asked about achievements. He was asked about them and just said "what are those?" When told they were required be just said "oh then they're probably in there whatever"
Recently I've seen how mad people got that Pikmin 4 is a soft reboot/what if on 1's ending. The vitriol that is used when saying retcon sounds like a slur, for a series about silly little aliens and their dumb plant children.
This is also very true of people trying older games. They'll blast through an old handheld game, complaining how stop and start it is. Yes, that was the intention.
I swear this has gotten way worse lately. Like true many games are releasing in bad states. But fan discussion is like 90% campaigning groups to fix or change a game.

Debate mindset mixed with fornite/mobile game update speed has warped people's brains.
It was very odd to see everyone go FINALLY A COMPETITOR TO POKEMON, and it was a dull early access survival game instead of one of the many turn based rpgs.

I'm half convinced the mass hysteria was to justify an obsession with that slop genre.
All fiction is just a twist on Kagurabachi when you get down to it.

"So basically think of Excalibur like a British Yoto, oh gomen Enchanted Blade"
To me what defined SNK was style, and it really feels like they've lost any sense of their modern identity.

Obari and a dump truck full of cash could save their reputation, instead they get the guy who made a movie with worse dialogue than a Borderlands game.
Action games are fighting games, no wait
Action games include some platforming, hang on
Action games are about real time strategy, nevermind
Action games involve search actions...

Well they're not RPGs cause those are about the spectacle of character, fuck
The books had the same effect really. The wave of fantasy writing largely suffered from not looking into Tolkien's influences. That was just the way things were, till the movies made fantasy the way it is.

Not to say the derivatives are all bad. Just wish the genre could be bolder.
You fool, the game should be free but there are multiple expensive battle passes and dlcs but if you only play this game you'll earn about enough free currency to buy some of the content but the game may also be updated to something unrecognisable at any point.

This is a good model.
Caught between feeling like a fraud cause I haven't finished Killer 7, and making split second calls on if telling someone I like Zelda is going a bit too far for them.
Pikmin 1's calendar is interesting in theory, but in practice it doesn't really force you to make decisions. Restarts (and in ports rewind) and the shortness of days mean a bad situation is never forced on you. The day timer makes you plan things out, but the calendar is more of a vibe than a threat
Repeatedly we see those in authority go too far. But Denji and Asa haven't found the right balance either. Maybe they won't and there is no right answer. I think their resolution though is going to beat at least fighting for what they want in the face of a system primed against them.
A recurring idea in Chainsaw Man is you got to be at least a little bit selfish. Not so much that you become entirely numb to the pain of others, that's what the villains do. But in a world where so many bad things will happen, you need something to anchor you. Though you can choose poorly.

"data mining and leak culture has ruined the wonder and joy of discovery in new (pokemon) games" there's one easy solution to this and that's just playing random indie games nobody cares about instead
Anger at spoilers is a natural part of hype cycles now, so the behaviour gets transplanted onto Nintendo games even when the spoilers are unimportant.

Same with getting really tetchy about lore, though in that case they made up half of it and are mad when it is wrong.

i really hate when we talk about books like they're shopping lists of tropes
If full of dopamine you wish to be, then pick one of my options 3
Nextfest is becoming a bit like steam greenlight where it is getting harder and harder to swim through the slop
