Imagine a world just like ours, but where Aerodynamics took a weird turn at the start of the previous Century

- leading to Aviation that's workable but also severely limited by a poor understanding of the principles behind Flight.

Science Fiction, or the REALITY of your world, in your time: 2025.

Oct. 12, 1925: Airplane inventor Orville Wright appears in Washington before the commission that’s probing the state of military aviation in response to Billy Mitchell’s allegations of incompetence. Wright favors more government support for airport building and pilot training.

Orv is about 54 in that picture...and about 2 yrs shy of sending the '03 Flyer to London. (P.S., all of his recommendations came to pass.)

Lying and forgery have always been an issue

- but imbuing those crimes with MAGICAL

(or Sci-fi...)

powers of destruction just FEEDS THE SCARE-SCAM...!

Legislating against witchcraft was a very bad move; the remedy was a law against those ALLEGING witchcraft, or FORGING it for commercial gain...

You seem like a boosterist, Heidi.

CLAIMS that AI 'has improved significantly' are both very persuasive MARKETING MATERIAL

- and complete FICTION.

AI has always been 'sloppy', and it's getting SLOPPIER all the time...

There's nothing to indicate it; birds big enough to cause the damage would likely be easily visible.

The vehicle's uncontrolled yaw starts at the same time as its sudden altitude gain. A transmission failure may account for both events, but it would be wise to WAIT for the NTSB report...

The trees weren't involved until the vehicle was almost down; without them, its impact would have been harder.

Suddenly rising is odd. That may indicate a transmission failure, causing both the loss-of-control and the yaw-rotor's failure. But the general rule is to WAIT for an NTSB report..

The same thing that went wrong when they were FIRST BUILT

- offices work

(for profiteers...)

because they're INTERCHANGEABLE.

Solid ranks of housing are impractical; you need a mix of 'amenities' sprinkled in there. For example, every fifth level needs to be a double- or triple-height PARK...

« When Aviation Volunteers Mobilize: CWoR Supports Emergency Air Exercise » We continue to be impressed by the efforts of Canadian Wings of Rescue, in this case, joining in Alliance North's 'Air Bridge 2025' exercise. Continue reading with link. | 🛩️ 🥇 | 🔗 canadianwingsofrescue.ca/when-aviatio...
A young woman climbs into a small, general aviation aircraft while it is parked in or beside a white hangar. The aircraft, pointing to the right of the frame, is shown in profile and is cropped such that the fuselage is shown from just forward of the empennage to the open, passenger side door. She has her left hand on the aft edge of the door frame and is stepping up onto the wing with her left foot. She is wearing a blue t-shirt with white lettering and black pants. She has a phone in her right pants' pocket and has sunglasses propped up on the top of her head. She has medium-length brown hair. The aircraft is white on the upper surfaces and blue on the lower. The right wing of the aircraft is in the foreground of the photo, but blurred, so as to focus attention on the person in the photograph. A flight of stairs and some windows are visible in the background. (📸 Canadian Wings of Rescue)

No.

Fractions 'kill' the premise, preserving it in amber.

'20 times smaller' invokes Heisenberg, by begging the question of just HOW SMALL the 'index' object or event is, and 'by comparison' to WHAT.

(Small, smaller, smallest...)

'20 times smaller' is USEFULLY vague

- and consequently curious.

I keep offering a really interesting (IMO...) story setup:

What if a Society's 'flagship' technology were UNABLE TO PROGRESS

- because an INCOMPLETE understanding of the relevant principles is treated by Technicians & Scientists as absolute MASTERY...?

For Aerodynamics, it's current REALITY...

Prioritizing LANGUAGE would help

- as it did LAST TIME.

When Chess Machines started to BEAT human champions (WITHOUT forming theories-of-mind and detecting intent...), it became obvious that chess-playing is NOT the high-intelligence task we THOUGHT it was.

We STOPPED calling them 'AI'...

It's really what 'we' thought a flapjack was, 300 years ago.

The 'oat flapjack' we enjoy today is really a luxury reboot of the traditional 'traybake' produced by leaving porridge to cool (and over time, to air dry...) in the greaseproof-paper lined drawer of a kitchen table.

Rereading THE GREAT CRASH OF 1929, one of my two favorite financial histories. It's always seemed vaguely prophetic to me, in the sense that history repeats. This is from the 2009 forward.

THIS is an existential threat

- it's not intelligent, either in a traditional or an artificial way.

It's a deliberate, manually operated policy...

I don’t know who needs to hear this but the CDC is being eviscerated right now. America is not going to have any kind of outbreak response capacity after tonight. Americans’ health data is no longer secure. Say goodbye to federal public health in any capacity. It’s a disaster. We won’t recover.

Adding a 22nd-Century axis for vertical GAIN, and another for horizontal PROGRESS, to a standard 'climb speeds' graphic doesn't CHANGE its message

- it's ALWAYS described 'mechanical advantage'.

But those axes HIGHLIGHT the work done by wings to LEVERAGE Engine Power into 'the Power to Climb'.
