One for the #sciart folks! A study from my own photograph of a great golden digger wasp on some goldenrod, in soft pastel on paper painted with watercolour ground (my new favourite way to add grip to my substrate):
a painterly drawing of a large wasp with pearlescent dark blue wings folded, huge dark reflective eyes, golden brown legs, and long dark antenna sweeping like a fancy moustache, standing and snacking on goldenrod blossoms against a soft, out of focus background.

I made this comic in 2022 (before Feedly got weird with AI) and I’m currently working on making an Ukagaka Ghost for myself, so Ukagaka fans chime in on any code you like!

Maybe I’ll do an Ukagaka comic follow up.

In the mean time I also did a talk on RSS: www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJpu...

for the most part i still really don't like CSP's 3D tools (compared to alternatives like DesignDoll) but this feature is CRAZY GOOD and I use it a lot. Almost like a magic trick.

I don't know who needs to hear this but:

PLEASE REMEMBER CLIP STUDIO HAS A HAND SCANNER THAT WILL REPLICATE A HAND 3D MODEL TO YOUR HAND'S POSITION.

DON'T SUFFER IN SILENCE TRYING TO DRAW THAT HAND POSE

ELRIC AT THE FORGE OF FOREVER (2019)
Acrylic on Watercolor Board - 14 ½” x 6 ½”

When I tossed out the old container of paints used to do the cover painting for WORDS OF RADIANCE, it landed upside down in my wastebasket on a piece of paperboard I had been using as a palette for something else. 1/2
Elric stands on an outcrop of rock with skulls at his feet. He wears a black hooded cloak trimmed in gold and jeweled bracers. He cradles Stormbringer as the length of the runesword, glowing purple, extends well above his head. Below him water spills frothy onto the shore but as it stretches back, placid and glassy, it gives way to erupting vents of lava.

I love taking a few supplies to a cafe and doing a thorough art session with friends - here's a spread from earlier this year, drawn by putting down flats first with crayola markers, and then layering neocolor ii crayons overtop.
A photo of a tabletop covered in markers, art crayons, and a sketchbook spread showing a drawing of a twisted tree, and another drawing of a large impossible castle in a pastoral landscape against the sea and a pink cloud-filled sky.

I painted this as one of three alien environments developed for Pillar of Fire; we focused heavily on using transformed scale to create an alien feel, while also being playful with colour and shape to keep things whimsical and enticing despite the strangeness.
A fantastical landscape snippet on a grey background, showing a magenta desert ecosystem with oversized fungal growths and impossibly steep hills; the ground splits and fractures like slate or ice sheets. The text label reads " ARID - scaled fungi - bacterial mounds - spiny land jellyfish"

okay. I've tried this before but maybe it'll stick.

WG is a forum where you can discuss at length tv, movies, books, new releases, metatextual topics, post and discuss art, post tutorials etc, read up in threads, which will not just vanish but stick around for a bit. try it!

Another oil pastel study, seeing how far I can take a monochromatic feel with my palette of pastel sticks at the time. Painted on rag paper, my favourite for oil pastels these days by far.
A blue painting of a teen sitting in a chair in an arcade with game machines behind, lit by blue light and the neon decorations and signs of the games, wearing a striped tshirt and jeans, with light skin and straight brown hair past their shoulders.
