We are truly between a rock and a hard place. While the far right keeps getting normalised and rising, the liberal mainstream in Europe only sees a problem with Orbán, Fico, Babiš, a potential Le Pen or AfD victory because of their attitude towards Russia. *Nothing else*. 1/

I am starting to think that the inability/unwillingness of many to accept the characterization "fascist" for contemporary fascists stems, in part, from the fact that their understanding of historical fascism is mediated by its defeat and not by its moment of ascendance.

A friend in Chicago, top of her law school class, has two US-born children. She can't leave her kids at the school yard before or after school starts even if a teacher is there. ICE is grabbing "latino looking kids" from school playgrounds, and her kids don't look white *enough* for her to feel safe
