Walking's fine, but for me lacks active peril, which is important.

Remember the old rightwing argument that all we needed to do was put a price on climate emissions and let the market do its thing? Well the necessary step was for the Govt to put a price on emissions. The current far right NZ Govt just announced it will never put a price on emissions.

This was extremely inevitable. These nitwits have been pampered for so long on the MAGA-DEI gravy train they genuinely don't know what it is to anticipate the real-world consequences of their choices, let alone develop public systems to deal with those consequences.

About a month ago, the Trump administration got rid of the de minimis exemption, whereby packages valued under $800 could slide in without import duties. Now there's a backlog as the government can't process all of this paperwork, leading to UPS just destroying packages
Business Insider headline reads: UPS is telling customers that their packages coming to the US are marked for destruction.

I would also note that her take on Wayne Brown and Auckland Council is clueless patter. When he's working well with the liberal-left councillors and standing candidates against his erstwhile supporters you can't really say he's "bulldozing through" the agenda he arrived with.

More like: actually putting some glasses and bowls in a box in the half hour I could maintain a state of not furiously thinking about potential uses for every piece. And then taking the box to the community recycling centre! And not buying anything while I was there!

I have a lot of glassware and very many bowls. And no Tupperware!

To be fair, the only multi-day festival I've been to in recent years is Splore, which has a beach.

This "washing at a music festival" you speak of ...

Damn. But yeah, riding a bike puts me in the moment and pumps up the dopamine.

He's still going on about it. Bit weird.

Did a good bit of kitchen decluttering this morning, until my ADHD brain freaked out and I had to go for a bike ride about it.

C&R might want to reflect that campaigning against safer speeds in a neighbourhood full of rat-run streets isn't a winner.
publicaddress.bsky.social
Also, when he says there will be a permanent library building "soon", what he means is in six or seven years, possibly.
publicaddress.bsky.social
Meanwhile, an unsuccessful C&R candidate makes a whiny and graceless post. Mate, people *like* the street upgrades round here. And we're also pretty excited about finally having a library again. Good grief.

That would be great. Gotta say, the City Vision members are the ones we see and hear from between elections. Same with councillors.

Turnout was awfully low, but one number was up: people not voting for a mayoral candidate. In 2022 it was 4740 blank +784 informal. This year, the progress result is 6127 + 542. That will presumably increase with specials.

The two subdivisions of Albert-Eden could be retitled "woke" and "not woke". We go City Vision and the Epsom people, who are not like us, go C&R, so there's a deadlock on the local board. Damn, Mark Graham and Michelle Thorp weren't far off though. A few hundred votes.

I don’t know who needs to hear this but the CDC is being eviscerated right now. America is not going to have any kind of outbreak response capacity after tonight. Americans’ health data is no longer secure. Say goodbye to federal public health in any capacity. It’s a disaster. We won’t recover.

“Everyone who is rich enough or close enough to reactionary politics is effectively in a cult with beliefs loonier than the median Heaven’s Gate member” is a relatively straightforward description of the current moment. I don’t know how we live like this
