We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art, and very often in our art, the art of words.

Every blue-state legislature could do this literally right now.

This is some of the best political news I've seen in a very long time.

There's a clear a way to end the Citizens United precedent by changing state incorporation laws - and now luminaries in both parties are forcing a vote on it in the 2026 election.

Was at an event recently where bug experts had a table, and a PDX cop came up and started talking about scary brown recluse spiders at his home in Vancouver. Argued with spider experts who told him they don't live here. Turns out cops are often scared of things that have no basis in reality.

Plus even if we wanted to, it's pretty hard to carry one while riding a bike 😊

one thing perhaps worth emphasizing is that under federal law an escaped enslaved person was a criminal. an "illegal," you might say.

As a west-coaster, I'll never be able to understand why building a house in this kind of location is a thing. If it's already built and the ocean moved in, get it the fuck out of there. The ocean will always win.

The media is really a huge sucker for costumes. I think that's the whole reason the Tea Party was successful. It's too bad it's taken us this long to leverage it, but I'm proud of Portlanders for being the ones to use it for good.

It's supposed to let people know that there are people fighting the fascists, despite the personal risks. Most of us could do a lot more to fight back.

There are groups that do this. The one I know of also provides shelter for domestic violence victims. The FBI is coming after them.

They're right, we do want to destroy them. Seems pretty easy, given how they react to inflatable costumes.

Hard to master the artificial version when you have none of the natural type, either.

Portland should actually do this in front of ICE, though.

Randomly discovered Mycelium Outlet on Google maps last night (yes, a real place here in Portland), and I'm still mad that it's not called The Spore Store.

The coming national horror is that if Portland's *truly* minimal level of protest justifies federalizing and deploying troops, they can and will be federalized and deployed anywhere the President wants and whenever he wants.

My initial read on this argument: Judge Nelson is eager to disagree with his 9th Cir. colleagues that federalizing the NG is reviewable at all.

He's also eager to disagree with Judge Immergut that the Portland protests were small and under control.

McArthur about the ICE protesters: "these are violent people." Says the president is entitled to say "enough is enough."

Asks for a stay pending appeal. Sits.

Argument is over.

Haven't even mentioned the people playing board games and having dance parties. It's hellish!

The problem with any religion is that you can twist it to justify whatever you want, and remove responsibility for those beliefs from yourself.

A frog danced at them. And people dangled donuts on fishing poles in front of them. Diabolical shit.
