Is this stuff even actually healthy for you though? I kind of want to try one but I'm also somewhat scared to because I'm very sensitive to caffeine www.nytimes.com/2025/10/10/m...

This is why I find archival photos of the city from, say, the 1990s or 1980s so fascinating and weird. It's the same city, not "historic" like those from well before, but just different enough to be weird. Dream like. Take the subway to the uncanny valley stop.

ACTUALLY, I have a theory that most books enter a cultural "uncanny valley" 20-25 years after release, where the culture has shifted just enough they're not contemporary anymore, so new readers can't directly relate, and they stay in the valley for about 50 years until they're clearly historical

Do people who live in very large states think it's also wild in a different way how tiny some states are?
rachelvetica.bsky.social
It's strange to me to think about how vast some other states are compared to small states like where I live

It's so tiny and cute!!

Does anyone actually have one of these experimental phone cases? How practical (or not) are they really? I can't buy one because I don't use an iPhone. www.baileyhikawa.com/collections/...

another idea I could do is to take customer requests, which are submitted in the store/restaurant and added to the playlist (perhaps at my discretion based on whether I like the suggestions or not). people are limited to one request per visit?

in other words, in my theoretical small business establishment, if I decided to do something experimental with the music choices and play one song repeatedly for each hour of the day (the song changes each hour), would customers notice and decide they don't want to be subjected to that and leave?
rachelvetica.bsky.social
I can't really think of any places (stores or restaurants) I specifically avoid going to because I hate the music they play there; most of the time I'm either indifferent/neutral about it, or perhaps actually enjoy the music selections of certain places.

if I owned and ran some kind of small business with a storefront open to the public, I wonder if my personal choices for the background music that would be played there would attract clientele, drive them away, or have no particular effect either way?

Archaeology of trash. While I look down on people who intentionally litter, sometimes it is interesting to see what items end up as litter and where. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/11/c...

I've been seeing those commercials too and every time I just... groan internally.

This reminds me of the recycled water treatment building in the Nye suburb of Aarhus, Denmark.

I wonder if I will ever see a sinkhole in person. Hopefully I won't fall into one that opens up suddenly beneath me though.

One of the recommended products is Dove, and while I haven't tried that particular one, some of their other scents I have tried in body wash and did not like them. So I'm not inclined to try any other dove body washes.
rachelvetica.bsky.social
Maybe the ones they ultimately suggested are fine, but honestly, something like body wash is a more subjective product that people should probably just find their own personal favorites instead of trying to rely on suggestions in wirecutter articles.

Longtime Soren watchers know that I'm a SEPA 2 devotee, but there's no question that SEPA 3 is more dramatic
