I wonder if I will ever see a sinkhole in person. Hopefully I won't fall into one that opens up suddenly beneath me though.

They fixed the sinkhole before I could look in it, story of my life.

One of the recommended products is Dove, and while I haven't tried that particular one, some of their other scents I have tried in body wash and did not like them. So I'm not inclined to try any other dove body washes.

Maybe the ones they ultimately suggested are fine, but honestly, something like body wash is a more subjective product that people should probably just find their own personal favorites instead of trying to rely on suggestions in wirecutter articles.

Longtime Soren watchers know that I'm a SEPA 2 devotee, but there's no question that SEPA 3 is more dramatic

Interesting! I didn't know about that account before.

I also saw some slugs, both living and deceased (smushed and shriveled). It's sad to see smushed up slugs on the sidewalk. That's why I try to move the live ones somewhere they're less likely to be stepped on.

It could be an anthropological project. For example, today I resourcefully utilized a piece of (clean) litter I saw a couple days ago and figured was probably still where I'd initially seen it. I needed a container to transport some snails that were rescued from the middle of a sidewalk.
rachelvetica.bsky.social
Now that I'm thinking about it, it could be interesting to map the locations of litter I see throughout my everyday life. And note what object(s) the litter consists of.

Honestly the garbage photos are kind of artful in a certain way. Especially how they demonstrate the scale of the sheer quantity of garbage. I don't even know where I could find that much litter around here to photograph.

The plentiful photos of piles of trash throughout this article are something else. It's wild that there are so many people just leaving large quantities of their garbage out in the street or a vacant lot or wherever they can find a place it doesn't actually belong. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/08/u...

But most Americans don’t buy even medium quality commercial pasta. De Cecco claimed 8% market share in the US in 2023. Most Americans buy Barilla, the store brand, Mueller’s, Ronzoni, etc. — not Rustichella D’Abruzzo or even De Cecco, Garofalo, Rummo, La Molisana, Di Martino, etc.

also if anyone has tips for photographing slugs at night without good ambient lighting, please share. the one in the photos above was under a streetlight but not all of them are so conveniently located

I forgot to post the slug photos on #molluscmonday last week, so here they are with just a few minutes left of Monday in my time zone.

I wonder what will happen if the bear that attacked and killed someone can't be trapped and caught (then killed) since it's too dangerous to humans to allow the bear to stay alive https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/05/us/deadly-bear-attack-arkansas.html

it would be interesting to know people with a wider variety of jobs, like things related to agriculture, manufacturing and construction and maybe other things I haven't thought about
