I like jazz.
I like classical.
I like prog.
So:
Don’t make me like punk!!!
For goodness sake let’s at least have some decorum!

It no longer registers on iTunes. It was a massive find for Lennie/Lee/Warne fans. Also rare recording of Willie Dennis’ technique, almost like a valve trombone. Dave Franks gave me the nod and I downloaded. Wanted to share a song when I realised it was no longer available.

#LeeKonitz’ Rewrite over Jerome Kern’s classic ‘All The Things You Are’. From the 17th measure Konitz’ composition modulates from Ab to D to close.

I bought on iTunes Lennie sextet (Willie Dennis) in Chicago 1951. Absolute dynamite. But subsequently the record company has withdrawn the album except Sax of Kind and Palo Alto. Really angry. Don’t know where the fault lies. But someone’s mucking about with history.

‘Sound Lee’, based on
‘Too Marvellous for Words’.

My choice for #LeeKonitz’ birthday.

It portends so much but was serenely beautiful and avant-garde in 1949.

Thanks to @rickmclaughlin.com for the reminder.

Remarkable. Like you say so much work. I tend to return to 1949 with Sal Mosca (‘Hi Beck’ is simply outstanding). Then the European tour with Warne, 1975-76. Lee and Warne were peerless.

Happy birthday, Lee Konitz! Too many incredible performances of his to mention so here’s one that is taking on new meaning as I get ready for the George Russell concert on Nov 9.

Footage of some of the treatment meted out to Nazi camp guards by allied liberators. Noem, Hegseth, Miller, Johnson, Trump, et al. They deserve no better when and if liberation comes.
