reminder that free speech is a privilege and not a right—those in power will challenge your right to free speech at every turn if you do not stand up for yourself and those around you

make your calls!! in the US, KOSA is back on the floor. use the 5calls app to contact your state reps!

he hasn't stopped calling~ have you? 🫵

how to call: stop-paypros.neocities.org

info and resources on pay discrimination: cartoonist.coop/censorship-p...
drawing of a man laying on bed with an old school phone in hand. he has a speech bubble that says "I'm so confused~ is what i'm buying illegal?" the text on the page says "keep calling and writing until payment processor censorship is reversed. one call a day makes a difference! mastercard and visa's statements aren't good enough. let's keep up the pressure together!"

do i want a web browser you cannot read or watch porn on: no, and also, what the fuck? why would you even create this.

Sam Altman went from “AI will cure cancer" to "ChatGPT porn" in less than a month
ChatGPT boss predicts when AI could cure cancer We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.

In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).

In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.

The worst thing about the AI water and energy discourse is that the blame will continue to fall on datacenters for requiring energy, and not on oil and gas companies for having captured the energy generation market in the United States.
keytryer.net
Like they ARE projecting huge energy requirements for future systems. And for no reason at all I'm gonna post this chart.

I mean yeah he's really expensive, has multiple misconduct allegations against him, is insufferable to be around and harasses his castmates, but at least he is a terrible actor that always insists on distractingly weird hair and makeup choices and has a reputation for starring in box office bombs.

every time i hear about a movie having jared leto in something remotely close to a starring role it just immediately destroys any interest i had in watching it. just totally evaporates it.

what fucking blackmail material does he have. like he must, right? there's no way people actually let him just do this.

Its wild too because apparently Tron Ares was a different story/film initially but Leto wanted to explore his character so much he convinced the director to change it to focus on him.
“The first iteration of [Tron: Ares] was a different movie, but it had a character named Ares that [Leto] was cast as while we were in pre-production,” Wigutow says, “He really got his teeth into this character and really wanted to hold onto it, and ultimately came to me and said, ‘Let's just build a movie around this character. I want to understand this character, his origins, and I want to take him to a very different place.’ So that's really the provenance and the origin of this specific film is Jared's dogged persistence on getting it done, but also telling the story of this character specifically.”

Digimon: Mr. Blue Sky

Digimon Tamers, Naru Taru, Madoka, and Devil Survivor all have a drunken orgy and nobody's really sure who the kid is. As hard of sci fi as you can feasibly get the concept of Digimon to go.

Will be published as a web serial on Ao3 and Royal Road when it's ready. Cheers.

don't even fucking get me started on load times and ram. we could've had something beautiful

actually im gonna reskeet myself on this because i'm right. llms are useful for research if you don't just blindly trust them. if you blindly trust them, you are also the sort of person who would blindly trust anything told to you authoritatively enough. Get Smarter.

i feel like it is morally irresponsible of basically every llm supplier to not have in their system prompt "when asked a question of factual basis you should literally always be searching the internet for high quality, reliable sources and present them as first line of citation". and yet,

Maybe one way to think of it is - this technology's progressed so rapidly, been marketed so cavalierly, that 90%+ of people through no real fault of their own are essentially illiterate in best usage. What is best usage? Treating LLMs *seriously* - not as seers or gods, but genuine interlocutors.
hotrollhottakes.bsky.social
Like this is literally a best use practice; this is how tackling intellectual problems with AI should work. This is LLMs as comprehensive stress testing where the goal is to be analytical, not validatory.
"I'm not normally fighting lawsuits on ChatGPT, but I do use it a lot in my business and in my life," she said.

The bot provided templates and drafted arguments for her responses, with Dennett regularly asking it to find potential errors in her logic. "I would tell ChatGPT to pretend it was a Harvard Law professor and to rip my arguments apart," she said. it apart until I got an A-plus on the assignment."

White ultimately negotiated a settlement and saved over $2,000 compared to her original debt, which she said was a partial victory she attributes largely to AI.

She said the opposing lawyers complimented her on her knowledge of the law and court proceedings as the case was wrapping up, writing to her in an email: *If the law is something you're interested in as a profession, you could certainly do the job."
