Halloween is for the goths and moths 📣

So we're kicking off our spooky countdown with the aptly-named Feathered Gothic (Tholera decimalis). A common moth, well distributed throughout most of Britain, but very local further north.

A greater yellowlegs at sunrise at Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge. A group of three was hanging around in the water near the end of the Pine Grove Trail. Two took off before the sun came up, but this one hung around for a photo.

Today’s #AutumnArrivalSpotlight is the mighty-beaked Hawfinch! 🍂

A shy autumn migrant, these large finches are drawn to the UK’s woodlands, where they put their powerful bills to work cracking seeds.

Have you spotted one?

Four wolves from California’s Beyem Seyo pack, including the breeding pair, were recently killed by state and federal agencies.

Their deaths mark a heartbreaking step backward for wolf recovery in CA, where wolves only returned a little over a decade ago after a century of absence.

Moose Monday, anyone?

Here's a nice bull photographed in Yellowstone over a decade ago. By Yellowstone standards, he was fairly big, but this ecosystem actually has the world's smallest subspecies of moose. They're noticeably smaller than those gargantuan Alaska moose, for example.

Just wrapped up an 11-day workshop here in Scotland, photographing some awesome foliage, woodland, and castles. Here's a small collection of images I managed to edit from my 14-day adventure photographing fall color in Colorado a couple of weeks ago.

For #Stunday as well as #ColorADay and #OrangeSun. I think it fits both. This is a long exposure image made on one of the most spectacular sunrises I've ever seen at this beach. I have a series of images from barely orange to after #sunrise. #photography #landscape #EastCoastKin #beach #longexposure
