I research, write, and teach about the Quaker tradition. I also write fiction (mainly sapphic romance novels set in prehistory) and poetry. She/her.

There are several versions of this going round, and this is something I'd considered posting anyway (sometimes I've made a pinned thread or similar which covers it). So let's play this evening: one like, one piece of my writing. Could be nonfiction, academic, fiction, poetry.
A black and a white text which reads 'Get to know my writing. For every like, I will post one piece I wrote' followed by a heart shape. The words 'writing' and 'piece I wrote' are white text on black stickers, unlike the rest, because the image has been edited from a previous version with different key words.

You don't have to do anything. Just your presence is a contribution to the community.

(Easier said than believed, I'm aware, and communities which would agree with the theory sometimes struggle to act accordingly, but I think this is true nevertheless.)

I see we have a likeable populist attacking the elites and addressing popular concerns, and his party is soaring in the polls, so we'll see a lot more of @zackpolanski.bsky.social on the BBC et al, won't we?

This. I imagine it has uses, but I wish I could turn off the constant offers. It's no good reading a summarised version of a PhD student's draft. It's no good having a summarised version when I'm proofreading. It's not really any good if I'm reading just to find out what someone wrote!

The huge sarsen stones guarding the entrance to West Kennet Long Barrow, with a glimpse of Silbury Hill beyond. Pic from a couple of years ago. #StandingStoneSunday
Several tall upright stones in front of the grassy mound of the long barrow. Behind the sun is setting so the sky is turning pink. On the right, in the background the unmistakable shape of Silbury Hill is visible.

Please use alt text when posting illustrations or photos or other images. I realize it feels like an inconvenience if you didn't ever do it at the other place, but folks who need it are a zillion times more inconvenienced every single day.

My reading today is a draft PhD thesis, so not quite a book.
rhiannonbookgeek.bsky.social
OcTBR update: finished this. I think I've been returning to it periodically for about a year, stalled by several changes to the project I thought it might help with and in life in general, but today I was off sick but awake enough to amble through the last sixty pages. @octbrchallenge.bsky.social
The cover of The Beginnings of Quakerism, which it describes as "The late William C. Braithwaite's standard history of the early days (to 1660) of the Quaker movement, based largely on the writings of the first Friends. This second edition is prepared by Henry J Cadbury, with a preface by L Hugh Doncaster." The text below says Cambridge University Press.

In our new blog, Rhiannon discusses the meanings behind this year's Quaker Week theme and explores how different Quakers might think about its Biblical origins.
Love Your Neighbour, but struggle with Scripture?

Here's my complete TBR pile at the moment (including several items on the Kindle). I think there are two reservations at the library which I will also count! Stone Lands is no longer on the shelf because I finished it today - very good. #OcTBR
My bookshelf - one book is horizontal and the others vertical. Legible book titles: Between tomb and cist, Britain's oldest art, Loki, Star Carr Revisited, The Leap, Friends to China, The Mitford Girls, Civil War, Mistress of the House, Materialising Religion, Agincourt 1415, Birmingham, Reading Between the Lines, behind you is the sea, Prince Harry Spare, Children of Time, Inscribed Across the Landscape, and The Beginnings of Quakerism. At the very end is the worn case of my Kindle which includes several more items.

My lecture/Pendle Hill Pamphlet on radical hospitality may be relevant? And I'd be very interested to hear your thoughts if you feel like sharing what you're writing.

🚨BREAKING: Last night the Global Sumud Flotilla was attacked by drones - again.

British-Palestinian journalist Kieran Andrieu was aboard one of the ships.

Despite these attacks the flotilla sails on, because the mission is too important.

Recognition is no doubt significant but it will be a hollow gesture if the UK does not also seek to end Israel's genocide, illegal occupation, and system of apartheid against the Palestinian people.

🧵1/3
Photo with Keir Starmer and copy that reads: RECOGNITION OF A PALESTINIAN STATE IS A HOLLOW GESTURE WITHOUT MEANINGFUL ACTION TO END ISRAEL'S GENOCIDE, APARTHEID & OCCUPATION

Looks like it - no official confirmation, but the UK/EU focus and the fact that the site did allow unmoderated user interaction means that would be a relevant factor.

A goddess for #FindsFriday

In 1882 antiquary Edward Cunnington dug at the #Roman temple at Maiden Castle hillfort in #Dorset

Sadly his excavations were never published although one important find was this copper alloy plaque with repoussée figure, possibly Minerva

Now in @dorsetmuseum.bsky.social
Thin copper alloy sheet with a lightly hammered image of a female figure wearing an archaic Greek helmet and holding a spear in her right hand, the left resting on a shield
