Aargh. Typo 😳 "marchands". Shouldn't post without preparing carefully at first - especially first thing in the morning. 😴

Bad weather made us postpone a tree planting but we were back out on Feb 7th to put in 21 trees. We had a few extra helpers!!! Thanks as always to our amazing volunteers and to #CornwallCommunityFoundation who helped fund the purchase of tools and hybrid elms. #ForestForCornwall supplied the trees.

If a #StandingStoneSunday post can represent how I'm finding life as an Assistant Headteacher as I reach half-way through my first year in the job - it would be this assemblage from Plozevet in Brittany. A bit of everything going on here!

Celebrating 21 years of (surviving) being parents to twins this week. Plenty of pics of them running away from the camera while visiting old stones. #StandingStoneSunday @chrisull.bsky.social

Cornwall's largest standing stone - Men Gurta on St Breock Downs. The power lines behind making it look like it's held up by string. #StandingStoneSunday

Nestled in a forest in the hills above Liskeard's Trago Mills - Largin Castle for #HillfortsWednesday is well worth seeking out.

One of the few remaining standing stones of Louden Hill Stone circle on Bodmin Moor. #StandingStoneSunday pic from a couple of years ago while on a walk that started near Stannon Stone Circle and could have taken in Fernacre too - but either weather or time was against us.

Coetan Arthur (also known as Arthur’s Quoit) - the remains of a Neolithic burial chamber close to St. David’s Head in Pembrokeshire, dating to around 3000 BC. 📸 My own. #TombTuesday #Prehistory #Archaeology #Pembrokeshire

The Lostmarc'h menhir - near Crozon in Brittany. I *think* thought to be part of an alignment. Just below this headland but out of view is the Oppidum de la Pointe de Lostmarc'h. It's a really spectacular place to visit. #StandingStoneSunday

King Donierts Stone and Other Half Stone in St. Cleer #Cornwall for #StandingStoneSunday. The remains of two C9th granite crosses, the smaller of the two is the Doniert Stone. The inscription probably memorialising King Dumgarth of Cornwall who drowned either in the sea or the river Fowey.

#FindsFriday won forever!
For today’s #FindsFriday, the Norfolk Carnyx!

An Iron Age war horn built to be seen and heard and to unsettle. Polybius wrote that its sound in battle seemed to 'emanate from the entire countryside'. More to come, including on #DiggingforBritain next week.

Lots of snowy pictures of old stones today - and I can contribute to that. Pic of The Hurlers from 2010. This one was taken by my sister who lived nearby at the time so credit to her for braving the lanes that day. #StandingStoneSunday

Looking out from within the Cairn de Gavrinis last July on the last #TombTuesday of 2025. Time to start planning where 2026 will take me.

A creative #TombTuesday image of Trethevy Quoit in cross stitch. One of my sons has learnt to do this and made it into a Christmas card!

Something a bit different for #StandingStoneSunday... Back in 2011 my aunt, Di Cope, visited Rudston, E. Yorkshire, with my grandma and drew this from a photo she took. If you've not seen actual Rudston, it's a single monolith, the tallest in the UK, and looks a lot like this, minus the grin.

A photo of the Hurlers from last Christmas. They're often hidden by fog but that day the sun was trying really hard to make an appearance. #StandingStoneSunday
