A 100-year (plus) old bottle I found washed up on a gravel bank in a local beck after a flood. Beautifully embossed.

Whenever I see this map and its lovely (and tectonically important) patterns, I always think of the first UK geological map drawn up by William Smith over many years. He should be on the back of our tenner or twenty but he died in debtors prison. An amazing man.

Been playing with QGIS. Loving these colours and how they show intricate geology, like the long band of magnesian limestone running from the midlands to the north. #Archaeology #Geology #Data

Demian Hommel, associate professor at Oregon State University, shares how the discipline is critical to create students who think spatially and act ethically: “Geography belongs at the center of that transformation, no longer a legacy subject, but a frontline framework.”

The central 'Devil's Arrow'.

This photo is from late August, when I arrived tyres burning, early morning, straight off of the A1M, en route to a Dig near Ripon.

They are truly an incredible sight and so beautifully incongruous amongst the ephemera of the modern day.

The evening light in Piet Mondrian’s 'The Tree,' (c1908) flattens the forms, and the muted tones reveal the influence of his evolving artistic philosophy. In time, he would move beyond nature reducing his art to a rectilinear grid of black on white accented with primary colours.

A few days ago I had two separate opinions given to me about this one which is waiting for some colour.

1) “Ooh it looks like finely woven thread”

2) “It looks all scratchy like it’s from some horror film but in a nice way”

I can live with both of those!
