Someone on here compared the rooftop skating scene in One Battle After Another with Singin' in the Rain ... I can't find the original post but I love that idea. Little moments of rebellion, joy, weightlessness, despite the police on patrol
Still from One Battle After Another. Silhouettes of three skaters leaping across a city rooftop, backlit by the smoke and fire of a riot. Still from the Singin' in the Rain number from the film of the same name. Gene Kelly is flipping and catching an umbrella, standing on a rainy footpath outside a glowing red millinery shop window.

I'm not an economist but seems worrying that the whole US economy is seven companies in a trenchcoat, passing the same $20 up and down

We are hugely honoured to have won the 2025 MSA Book Prize for The Rise of Pacific Literature: Decolonization, Radical Campuses and Modernism. Thank you to everyone involved. It was a huge joy to work on such a wonderful period in Pacific writing.

International socialism and “Pluto is a planet again” is the winning agenda for failing liberal democracies

Giving students thoughtful, personalized feedback and instruction is not a problem that originates from the difficulty for an instructor to generate feedback, it is a problem that originates from institutions pivoting to student:instructor ratios where that dynamic is not logistically feasible.

Reading a Rachel Ingalls story (On Ice, 1987) and oh no 🚩🚩🚩
“What organization?”
			“The Fountain of Light.”
			“The what?”
“It’s our Christian fellowship foundation. We bring the culture and hope of the free world to—”
Beverley removed the saucer covering her second cup of coffee.
Angela’s expression became fixed and devout. She gabbled about “the word,” the need for real estate, “the light” and the building of training centers; “the fountain”; the establishing of weekly lectures in notable beauty spots, the investment of cash in long-term plans for truth, light, love and a whole lot else, including medical research. Very few people outside the movement knew, she said, that vitamin intake was directly related to disorders of the personality. But some day there would be “detoxification clinics” all over the world, where people could go to profit from the word.
			“To read?”
“To resolve their vitamin imbalance, Bev. To reach God. We’d like to start up an education program right here.”
