Would either @markharris.bsky.social's Pictures at a Revolution: Five Movies and the Birth of the New Hollywood or Five Came Back: A Story of Hollywood and the Second World War count? Both are about multiple movie industry figures, but focus intensively on particular time periods.

The Portland Frog army has now infiltrated Tulsa, OK and they’ve made an unlikely alliance with the T-Rex infantry and Sharks on Hoverboards mercenary forces.

This is truly terrifying.

Oh, hell no. I was late to the party with D’Angelo, but his three albums were deep and brilliant. What a loss.

I suspect one reason Wilkie Collins is underrated today is because he challenged the prejudices of literary canon-makers of his day by creating sympathetic, relatively non-stereotyped non-white characters (in The Moonstone) and intelligent female characters (in The Woman in White).

Thinking of droll lines by movie antagonists, the police dispatcher saying "Use of unnecessary violence in the apprehension of the Blues Brothers has been approved" hits a little differently now than in 1980. (This has me wanting to pitch a Blues Brothers reboot but putting them in frog suits.)

"To be a Republican in 2025 represents a clear public confession that you either don't know the difference between good and evil and you're so morally empty that you can't be bothered to begin to try, or that you do know the difference, and you prefer evil." Great essay from @juliusgoat.bsky.social
The Crime of Human Virtue
Sometimes it really is as simple as good vs. evil. This is one of those times. Human virtue is our great crime against the fascist project; it's also our great weapon against it.

For sure. It's interesting to me that even with his Nazi affinities (and unlike some of his contemporaries), Webern still couldn't bring himself to write the kind of "non-degenerate" music that would have been acceptable to the regime. A bit passive-aggressive, I'd say.
robtomshany.bsky.social
With Webern his support for Hitler and the Nazi regime was complicated by the fact that his music was suppressed as Jewish-influenced "degenerate art", and the manner of his death - shot by an occupying American soldier during a black-market raid gone wrong - also gave him a bit of a pass.

I agree with the OP here. This idea of shining lasers at helicopters is not only stupid and dangerous, it's so obvious a false flag. Trump and Miller are DESPERATE for somebody to do this so they can invade that city and impose martial law.
jakeythesnakey.bsky.social
This is such an astoundingly bad idea that I kinda think it’s a false flag or an op of some sort

Merits aside, it is insanely easy to be caught if you do this and the punishment for doing this is much more severe than you’d guess.

...but always avoiding anything that COMPELLED rich people to share part of their fortune. It's even worse today; Democrats don't have an alternative to their old program, while the moneyed class knows the Republican party is brain-rotted but fears what might come later in its place. 2/end
robtomshany.bsky.social
One of the things wrong with pre-Trump normality is the way American politics catered to money; the post-1980 Republican program appealed to the moneyed class AS the moneyed class, where the best the Democrats could do was appeal to sensible people who happened to have lots of money,... 1/x

I saw Tron once and owned the soundtrack (score by Wendy Carlos, plus the almost forgotten Journey song "Only Solutions") on vinyl. But I definitely spent way more time playing the arcade game than I ever watched the movie. (Hell, I probably played the Journey arcade game more than I watched Tron.)
robtomshany.bsky.social
I suspect Tron: Legacy was greenlit was because Disney's then-chief creative officer, John Lasseter, was dealing with lingering issues over being fired from Disney about the time they started making the original Tron. (Lasseter had pushed for more CGI development and ran afoul of company politics.)
