Bohs v Schalke in a friendly at Dalymount this afternoon.

Good to keep the Bohs players sharp during the international break and, ahem, possibly a bit of practice for European football next year.
Schalke players warming on the Dalymount pitch. Bohs warming up before the game.

I wouldn't say so but I think someone high profile might find it easier to get coverage.

Perhaps it's a sub genre that comes from blogging?

I haven't read the writer's books but I find the tone in her articles quite distancing. There's auto fiction that uses the author's life as a subject and then there's the sort where it's the only subject.

As @davidcollard.bsky.social often says of Joyce, "not for everybody but it is for anybody."

Takedowns are fun to read but I think the real test of a critic is when a future classic arrives, unheralded, in the post among many other books, on a busy week, and the critic can spot it. @davidcollard.bsky.social with Solar Bones and A Girl is a Half-formed Thing, for example.

Whereas you could read, say, To Kill A Mockingbird and not think that.

I have to say I envy his precision. I think he had a good mix of vibes and analysis.

In recent years I've been left cold by buzzy books/films etc and couldn't pinpoint why. Now I see that they have a demographic in mind and at some level I'm resisting that idea, even where I am in said demographic.

Ps. I didn't share the article because it's a negative review of a writer.

Interesting piece by Kevin Power in the Irish Times. Unlocks something I've been struggling to get my head round. He writes about trying to enjoy work that is clearly meant for someone else. Maybe that's part of what elevates something to art: you don't have to be in a club to fully appreciate it.

Got to see the first two episodes of the Leonard and Hungry Paul TV show in a small cinema with the crew and cast. With genuine and heartfelt sincerity, I loved it. I feel so grateful to everyone who worked on it.

I hope you all love it as much as I do (but I think you will).
