Migrated from the hell hole and found it much better for my mental health here. I live a quiet retired life in rural Suffolk, UK with Himself who is finally working part-time in the wind down to retirement, 12 yr old arthritic dog, 2 cats and 6 chickens.

Always time for singing penguins Sue 😅

Always a great song from The Beautiful South.

I never have either. But I think I can live without ever seeing it so I won't join you both. I don't knowingly inflict a Tom Cruise film on myself nowadays. It was the little short arse wasn't it? Can't stand watching him or that Di Caprio bloke.

They're tortoises not turtles 😉 Though perhaps they identified as turtles as it was way cooler to be one and pretend to be Ninja ones 😅

Not sure if your summer of 1990 outdoes mine or not. I was hugely pregnant, it was baking hot and I had only one maternity sundress I could fit into and would wash it and dry it overnight. Summer ended while I spent a week in hospital recovering from blood loss after giving birth to my son.

Surely that's what it must be. Either AI slop or footage from George Floyd and older protests.

But this is brilliant from The Daily Show:

But hey the JCVI say it's fine. No need to give us vaccines anymore because "Covid is now a relatively mild disease for most people" or impose any mitigations. No need to worry about those for whom it isn't or about the long term effects of infection then. Just think of all the money being saved 🤬

Pubs could stay open longer under Starmer plan to revive British night out

Who will provide extra police, staff, public services?

Nights out restricted due to cost of living crisis

Govt can help hospitality industry by cutting energy/water bills, rents, improving public transport.

Morning Kitty. Lovely to hear from you and read your wonderful message. Hope you have a lovely day xx

Morning. At least you're through stage 1 of getting your Mum safely settled. She'll be so relieved to get out of hospital that she'll accept a care home as a temporary measure 🤞but you all know it's permanent. Hope you can take time out to relax today as it must have been an ordeal. Sending hugs.

EU steel tariff hike threatens 'biggest ever crisis' for UK industry.

Crisis deepened by Brexit, Trump tariffs, trade wars, privatisation and lack of investment. Huge subsidies continue.

It is now either nationalisation or death of the industry.

My first thought too 😅

I'm off to yoga this morning too Sophie. Don't think I'm as gracious or as flexible as you though 😅

Moles aren't actually very big but are incredibly strong and fast. Yes cats and dogs are great at manipulating us. Dog has OH under her thumb. One look from her big brown eyes and he's sharing whatever he has with her 😅 Not good when we need to keep her weight down! We do their voices too 🤪

He is a cat of very little brain. Dimmer than a nightlight bulb. But we love him despite the mice. His speciality is moles and we've not had any mole hills in the garden for a few years now!
ruralsuffolk.bsky.social
In a word ZACK! He loves catching them and bringing them in if we don't get there and stop him. He likes to play with them and they manage to get away and head for cover. He loses interest and wanders off 😠

Every year 100s of employers are named and shamed for failure to pay the statutory minimum wage.

2016-2023: over 3m workers denied the minimum wage.

Puny fines do nothing. Fines must equal the remuneration of the board of directors. 50% personally payable. Imprison persistent offenders.
The government must ensure fair distribution of income
'The average real wage of workers has hardly moved from the 2008 level whilst bosses never had it so good.'

Oops. That will be nerves. Hope he gets on ok. I was quietly relieved when 17 yr old didn't pass first time. I only got temporary relief though as he passed at second go and was still only 17! Mind you he's now double that and I still worry when I know he's driving. Must be a parent thing 😅

I never got past the first episode of the first series. Same as I did with Line of Duty. I usually like crime drama but neither grabbed me. Tolerably ok but not worth spending my time watching. Others must see what I don't though as I know they're both popular.

Shortish thread.

It's been a while since I have written any poem or song parodies, but the speeches at the recent Tory Conference sparked an idea.

If you'd have seen me you'd have done more than smile. I heard a noise in the wood basket. Threw a dog towel over to stop it jumping out, reached in with thick glove to get some wood out + hauled it outside. Took more wood out. No sign of mouse so tipped upside down. One shell shocked mouse on path!

Had my suspicions as a plant was nibbled back then heard a noise in the wood basket while finishing my lunch yesterday. Threw a dog towel over it, took out heavy bits of wood then hauled it outside. Decanted one shell shocked mouse! I'm still blowing my nose as sinuses still full but feeling ok now.

It's awful isn't it. Saw it first hand when I wound up at A&E. There for 11 hrs but much of it was waiting to see people, for scans and for specialists to look at results. Poor Stroke Registrar was covering A&E and the wards. They were so thorough though and he even phoned me a few days later.

That sounds a great idea. Such a lovely city and so much to see and do in the countryside too and you're close to other interesting counties as well like my Suffolk 😉 And great rail link into London. In fact don't just consider it. Do it!!
