Migrated from the hell hole and found it much better for my mental health here. I live a quiet retired life in rural Suffolk, UK with Himself who is finally working part-time in the wind down to retirement, 12 yr old arthritic dog, 2 cats and 6 chickens.

Moles aren't actually very big but are incredibly strong and fast. Yes cats and dogs are great at manipulating us. Dog has OH under her thumb. One look from her big brown eyes and he's sharing whatever he has with her 😅 Not good when we need to keep her weight down! We do their voices too 🤪

He is a cat of very little brain. Dimmer than a nightlight bulb. But we love him despite the mice. His speciality is moles and we've not had any mole hills in the garden for a few years now!

In a word ZACK! He loves catching them and bringing them in if we don't get there and stop him. He likes to play with them and they manage to get away and head for cover. He loses interest and wanders off 😠

Every year 100s of employers are named and shamed for failure to pay the statutory minimum wage.

2016-2023: over 3m workers denied the minimum wage.

Puny fines do nothing. Fines must equal the remuneration of the board of directors. 50% personally payable. Imprison persistent offenders.
The government must ensure fair distribution of income
'The average real wage of workers has hardly moved from the 2008 level whilst bosses never had it so good.'

Oops. That will be nerves. Hope he gets on ok. I was quietly relieved when 17 yr old didn't pass first time. I only got temporary relief though as he passed at second go and was still only 17! Mind you he's now double that and I still worry when I know he's driving. Must be a parent thing 😅

I never got past the first episode of the first series. Same as I did with Line of Duty. I usually like crime drama but neither grabbed me. Tolerably ok but not worth spending my time watching. Others must see what I don't though as I know they're both popular.

Shortish thread.

It's been a while since I have written any poem or song parodies, but the speeches at the recent Tory Conference sparked an idea.

If you'd have seen me you'd have done more than smile. I heard a noise in the wood basket. Threw a dog towel over to stop it jumping out, reached in with thick glove to get some wood out + hauled it outside. Took more wood out. No sign of mouse so tipped upside down. One shell shocked mouse on path!

Had my suspicions as a plant was nibbled back then heard a noise in the wood basket while finishing my lunch yesterday. Threw a dog towel over it, took out heavy bits of wood then hauled it outside. Decanted one shell shocked mouse! I'm still blowing my nose as sinuses still full but feeling ok now.

It's awful isn't it. Saw it first hand when I wound up at A&E. There for 11 hrs but much of it was waiting to see people, for scans and for specialists to look at results. Poor Stroke Registrar was covering A&E and the wards. They were so thorough though and he even phoned me a few days later.

That sounds a great idea. Such a lovely city and so much to see and do in the countryside too and you're close to other interesting counties as well like my Suffolk 😉 And great rail link into London. In fact don't just consider it. Do it!!

Morning. Lots of us have been in a similar situation to you with your Mum. Whatever you do it's always stressful and you always feel guilty. Just know that we're here supporting you as you navigate through. Sun has just broken through here. All is calm in the house now I've evicted another mouse!

Yes being careful. Will try somatic movement as is gentle but put off Zumba or gym yet. I'm usually fine after the flu jab but think it was having 2 jabs while body still fighting the virus. I qualify for shingles this year but will wait a few weeks till I'm properly over this. Good luck with yours.

Hope all will be well. Such a worrying time. At least she's in hospital and they'll be doing their best to achieve a positive outcome for your daughter and grandchild. Keeping all fingers crossed for them.

Hope you have a lovely time celebrating her birthday. Sounds like it will be extra special in view of the circumstances. I must get over to Cambridge again soon. Usually meet an old friend there as it's equidistant for both of us. Nice for a bit of retail therapy and coffee and cake/lunch breaks.

Lovely photos. Sounds like an enjoyable walk. I did think the lying down standing stones were sheep when I first saw the photo 🤭 I love long tailed tits. It's amazing when a whole host of them flock down to a suet ball feeder and you can't even count how many there are.

Not sure I could face that for breakfast, especially the mashed potato which I'm not a huge fan of anyway but sounds an ideal lunch.

Morning. Bit of a grey day here though the Met forecast sun later so hopefully we can get a bit more solar electricity than yesterday. OH still suffering with the bug I've passed on to him but I'm now well over the worst of it and reaction to flu + pneumonia jabs. Phew. Must do some food shopping.

And spent a fortune of tax payers money on an over the top, Coronation despite saying when the heir that his would be a frugal and scaled down monarchy. Yeah right.

Trump pressure to hike UK drug prices could cost NHS billions.

Corporate profits will increase. NHS budget will buy less. People to pay higher taxes or face public service cuts.

To avoid bullying UK Govt must produce cheaper generic drugs.

“The UK government is proposing to pay up to 25 per cent more for drugs bought by the NHS as it tries to save the sector from President Trump’s tariffs and stop pharmaceutical companies from abandoning investments in the country.”

All this sovereignty is making me giddy…

I always fancied being the moody cool girl singer fronting an otherwise male group. Like this lot. Strong female role models all for my generation.
Female lead singers from 70s/80s groups - Debbie Harry, Viv Albertine, Siouxie, Chrissie Hind, Poly Styrene and Pauline Black
